Under the Expertise combat action, when you say 'before making an attack roll': do you mean you must choose to sacrifice your attack power before making any attack roll during your round, affecting them all much like the original feat? OR can you choose before ANY attack roll during your round, most likely resulting in players doing it on their less likely to hit last attacks and leaving their attack rating unscathed on the first, higher BAB attacks? I think it's not clear enough as is. -HarrowedMind (talk) 19:56, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

This is old, but by RAW it definitely reads as the latter interpretation - nothing about "before making an attack roll" implies that it has to be the first attack roll on your turn. I can't imagine this is the intention and it results in stupid gameplay, so I'd probably recommend something more like "At the beginning of your turn, you may voluntarily take a penalty on all attack rolls up to a maximum of your BAB and gain an equal dodge bonus to your AC. Both the attack penalty and dodge bonus from using this attack option last until the beginning of your next turn." Sunwitch (talk) 00:14, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
