Wrapsodi Skuttla, Malicious Potion-Maker[edit]

The wife of Manny Green, whose very soul was crushed into powder in an attempt to avenge him that went horribly wrong. Of course, being crushed into powder does not equal being thoroughly obliterated, and so the fragments of Wrapsodi's soul still linger on, awaiting their chance to recombine and return to wreak havoc. In life, Wrapsodi was a malicious trickster who loved making others miserable for her own amusement; as a vestige, she grants incredible speed, alchemical talent, and a penchant for causing mayhem to binders crazy enough to make pacts with her.

Legend[edit]

Unlike most vestiges, Wrapsodi's story is well-known, for she became a vestige just a few years ago, and the ones who destroyed her were all too willing to share what they knew of her upon being requested.

Wrapsodi was an unelven drider gifted with amazing speed and a twisted mind. Her mother, Lolth Skuttla (no relation to the drow deity), tutored her well on the use of her natural abilities and instilled in her her fundamental mindset: "As long as you have the speed and the skill to survive, you can do anything you desire." Wrapsodi was also a gifted Pokémaster, specializing in Pokémon capable of trapping and immobilizing opponents.

Wrapsodi used her abilities and her Pokémon to maliciously prey upon creatures who caught her fancy, using her venom to liquefy her victims and then selling their remains as potions to make a living. To disguise her abilities, she usually disguised herself as a human, relying extensively on her Pokémon in order to conceal her true power until she could use it to the most devastating possible effect. During her hunts, she made numerous enemies — most prominently Scott, a rival twisted-potion maker and Pokémaster who later renounced his practice (the using sentient-creatures-as-potion-ingredients thing, not being a Pokémaster) and became a powerful force for good, and the Heroes' League, an organization of legendary do-gooders founded by the young dungeon master/Pokémaster Luigifan — the man who, among other accomplishments, elevated the Pure Cross to artifact status through his faith in Yahwehto stamp out evil and protect the innocent. As part of their crusade to protect the innocent and promote virtue, the Heroes' League made a habit of getting in Wrapsodi's way.

However, preying on sentient creatures to use them as ingredients is potions wasn't the only thing that made lots of enemies for Wrapsodi. A despicable sadist at heart, Wrapsodi had a penchant for committing incredibly cruel acts to amuse herself, ruining people's lives just for the sheer thrill of getting away with it. One of Wrapsodi's heinous misdeeds was exposing the eggs laid by Entegra Whidoe, another unelven drider, to a xenophobic human, who promptly proceeded to smash them flat. Only one egg survived the massacre, and Entegra bore a lifelong grudge against Wrapsodi for this — a white-hot desire to slay her.

During one encounter with the Heroes' League, where they stopped her hunt before it could even start, Wrapsodi decided to take one of them as a consolation prize and revealed her true form as an unelven drider, then attacked, capturing a member of the Heroes' League, Tulip Natchralli. After taunting the Heroes' League mercilessly, Wrapsodi retreated, using her amazing speed to escape the Heroes' League; even the legendary Sonic the Hedgehog was barely able to catch up to her, and she managed to outmaneuver him while running up a tree, causing him to fall to the ground and suffer a concussion. Her luck soon ran out, however, as she was accosted by Lily Natchralli, the sister of Tulip. Lily, as a vampire who had been redeemed by the Purifying Sanctuary spell, turned out to be completely immune to Wrapsodi's abilities, and swiftly overpowered her and nearly killed her. Lily only spared Wrapsodi's life because she was desperate to rescue her sister, and prioritized getting Tulip back to the rest of the Heroes' League to be healed over finishing Wrapsodi off. But Wrapsodi's humiliation wasn't over, as Entegra showed up immediately after Lily left and nearly killed Wrapsodi right then and there. Wrapsodi barely escaped with her life, and vowed revenge on the Heroes' League.

The very next day, Wrapsodi kidnapped Annie and Sonja Belnades and attempted to kill them, only to be stopped at the last minute when the Heroes' League caught up to her. In a last-ditch effort to save her hide and kill a member of the Heroes' League, Wrapsodi managed to form a crude holy symbol out of some rocks and whacked Lily Natchralli over the head with it, knocking her off the underside of the floating island they were fighting on and down towards the ocean. However, Lily was rescued by her mate, Legault Dawn, before she hit the water and dissolved in it, much to Wrapsodi's frustration.

Wrapsodi, humiliated, fled the island at the earliest opportunity and sought the assistance of Manny Green, breaking him out of jail and allying herself with him. Manny took a liking to her quickly, and despite his selfish nature, he went well out of his way to rescue her when her next attempt to kill Annie was once again thwarted by Lily. Wrapsodi returned the favor by rescuing Manny from being beheaded by Luigifan, nearly killing the young dungeon master in the process; however, when the rest of the Heroes' League came to Luigifan and Lily's aid, Manny and Wrapsodi retreated. With Manny's assistance, Wrapsodi was finally able to defend herself against Lily by employing a Volcarona, which nearly killed her with its solar aura; the vampire only survived with the last-minute assistance of Legault, Luigifan, Annie, and Sonic.

Manny and Wrapsodi had many skirmishes with the Heroes' League after that, even as the Heroes' League's members began to have children. Wrapsodi and Manny, having fallen in love over their partnership, married and had children of their own.

Then Manny got himself killed while trying to mess with Annie by killing her daughter, Janine.

Wrapsodi, in her grief and rage, kidnapped Uma Mokary, who Annie's son, Matthew, had a crush on, and used Uma as bait to lure Matthew into a trap. However, she didn't anticipate that Matthew would outwit her by cutting off her escape route with his Metagross, then using Metagross's telekinesis to immobilize her before having it jump on top of her. Wrapsodi's last living moments were spent in abject horror as Metagross's titanic mass came crashing down on top of her and its jaws clamped down on her head.

Wrapsodi still would have gone to the afterlife after that if not for Devin Whidoe, the one surviving child from Entegra's brood, who was drawn to the scene by the commotion. Devin, seizing her chance to add insult to Wrapsodi's injury, pushed the Metagross aside and used some magical talismans to extract Wrapsodi's soul from her mangled corpse. Devin then proceeded to grind Wrapsodi's soul to dust by crushing it in her bare hands, destroying it utterly.

...Or so Devin thought. Reducing something to dust only mostly destroys it. While Wrapsodi's soul, crushed and mangled as it was, was indeed denied the right to enter the afterlife as Devin had hoped, it wasn't entirely obliterated. And so Wrapsodi Skuttla became a vestige, unbeknownst to the Heroes' League until Luigifan was approached by binder scholars seeking information about Wrapsodi's history. Luigifan, having himself done extensive research on binders and deeming them to be quite fascinating, was all too happy to answer the binders' questions, telling them everything he knew about who Wrapsodi was.

Manifestation[edit]

Lines of silk stretch across the seal, forming a spider's web. A metallic maw appears beneath the web and belches out a cloud of dust, which coalesces into the form of a badly mangled, partially eaten unelven drider. She scowls at you and asks you what you want.

Sign[edit]

Spiderlike fangs emerge from your cheeks, while your mouth becomes like a spider's pedipalps. The fangs are suitable for making bite attacks, though you lose any bite attack you may already have. The fangs make it impossible to wear most mundane headgear that would cover your cheeks, though magical headgear can reshape itself to fit you, and you can fold your fangs up against your mouth and conceal them with a piece of clothing that would cover the entirety of your lower face, such as a veil.

Your legs also become spiderlike, preventing you from wearing mundane footwear not designed for a spider (though magical footwear reshapes itself to fit you), and your buttocks change shape to resemble a spider's abdomen, complete with a spinnerette that can form functional silk. (As with your face and legs, the spider abdomen makes wearing mundane clothing and armor extremely difficult (though not impossible; you can wear mundane armor not shaped for a drider, but only as if donned hastily), though magical clothing and armor reshapes itself to fit you.)

Influence[edit]

While she was alive, Wrapsodi loved committing random acts of spite just for the sheer thrill of getting away with committing horrible crimes. As a vestige, she is no different. Whenever you encounter a creature, roll a d20. On a result of 4 or 5, Wrapsodi compels you to do something annoying to that creature, such as messing up its hair or pulling down its pants; such an act could invite retaliation from someone with a short fuse, but most people would shrug it off. On a result of 2 or 3, Wrapsodi compels you to do something severe enough to warrant retribution or demands for reparations (or at least a severe scolding), such as shoving someone into a mud puddle or scribbling rude graffiti on their clothing. On a result of 1, Wrapsodi compels you to do something so incredibly heinous that it'll certainly get you detained or worse if you're caught, such as tripping a horse pulling a carriage down a crowded street (therefore causing a massive pile-up that injures several people) or stabbing a pregnant woman in the gut (and murdering her baby in the process). You only need to make this roll once per minute at most, even if you're in an incredibly crowded area.

If the binder in question is a PC, the player is encouraged to come up with a misdeed to perform, but the DM has the final say on what the compulsion is (to make sure it meets the minimum severity requirement of the d20 roll). Despite the use of the word "compel" in the previous paragraph, it is possible to hold oneself back from committing a misdeed with a Will save (DC = 10 + 1/2 your effective binder level + your Charisma modifier), though succeeding on the save counts as a violation of Wrapsodi's influence and will cause you to suffer a −1 penalty to attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks until the pact ends. Wrapsodi will never require you to commit acts of random mayhem upon creatures you know very well and are exceptionally fond of (such as party members, close friends, your spouse, your siblings, your children, your pets, etc.); you don't even have to make the d20 roll. (However, "exceptionally fold of" is in the previous sentence for a reason; all bets are off if you happen to dislike that person.)

[In life, Wrapsodi had enough self-restraint to not get herself run out of every single town she entered within an hour of getting there, but as a vestige, she knows that her binder, not her, will take the fall for her shenanigans, so why not have some fun? Yes, she's a colossal jerk, to put it lightly.]

Granted Abilities[edit]

Brew Twisted Potion[edit]

You can make use of Brew Twisted Potion, even if you don't meet the prerequisites. You can make a potion from a creature killed by your venom as a 1-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity; if you are interrupted, the Concentration DC to avoid spoiling the action is increased by +5.

Spider's Bite[edit]

You gain a bite attack as a primary natural weapon, and are automatically proficient with it. This bite does 1d10 damage for a Medium creature and injects a victim with dangerous poison (technically venom, since you're injecting it) that literally digests and liquefies their innards. This poison does 1d6 Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution damage as primary damage and 1d8 Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution damage as secondary damage. The poison is supernatural while you are injecting it, as normal for a vestige-granted ability, but becomes extraordinary once in the victim's body (which has the consequence of making it susceptible to poison resistance and immunity that only applies to mundane poisons). The save DC for both the primary and secondary damage is calculated as normal for a vestige-granted ability, though your Constitution modifier is used in place of your Charisma modifier if the former is higher.

A creature killed by your venom has its innards reduced to the consistency of a thick soup, making it impossible to resurrect by raise dead. You can drink the innards of a creature killed by your venom, which serves as your nourishment; this requires 1 minute, provoking attacks of opportunity, if you drink straight from the creature's body, plus or minus 2 rounds for every size category the creature is larger or smaller than Medium. However, this leaves the creature's skin behind, so resurrection is still capable of resurrecting it. You can also store the creature's remains in bottles, which acts just like making potions from them via Brew Twisted Potion, except that the bottled remains are nonmagical.

You cannot use this ability if you do not display Wrapsodi's sign. You can use it if you are concealing your fangs beneath nonmagical clothing, but take a −4 penalty on your attack roll against a target who is able to use their Dexterity bonus to AC, because the clothing resists the movement your fangs must make to perform the bite, delaying the attack (giving your foe more time to react) and forcing you to either pull the clothing away (which requires you to have a hand free or some other means of manipulating objects, such as telekinesis) or have your fangs tear right through the clothing (destroying it in the process). Magical clothing will get out of the way of your fangs on its own, allowing you to use your bite attack without penalty.

Spider Silk[edit]

You gain the ability of an unelven drider to generate silk from a spinnerette in your rear end, and you can use this silk to spin webs, lasso creatures, or, well, do whatever a spider can. Unlike an unelven drider, you can use this ability at will, and you can throw a line of silk at a creature within 60 feet as a standard action to grapple it from a distance and pull it towards you; if you succeed, you can immediately follow up with a bite attack, gaining bonuses to your attack and damage roll as though you had executed the attack from a charge.

You cannot use this ability if you do not display Wrapsodi's sign.

Pokémon Mastery[edit]

Wrapsodi was well-known for using Pokémon to do her dirty work, especially before she revealed her true identity as an unelven drider and her amazing speed. Indeed, her Pokémon were the only beings that she actually cared for and loved (until she partnered up with Manny Green, anyways), and her enemies considered her love for her Pokémon her one redeeming quality.

While bound to Wrapsodi Skuttla, you can control Pokémon and craft Poké Balls as though you were a Pokémaster whose class level is equal to your effective binder level −4.

If you are also bound to Manny Green, your effective Pokémaster level equals your effective binder level.

Super Speed[edit]

Your base land speed is improved by 60 feet for the duration of your pact with Wrapsodi, with an additional +5-foot increase per 2 effective binder levels. You also gain a +4 dodge bonus to AC, which increases to +8 against attacks of opportunity, and your movement speed and ability to run are unimpeded by carrying a medium or heavy load (though you are still slowed down by wearing medium or heavy armor). [Wrapsodi was well-known in life for her ability to run at full speed and react to being attacked even while carrying an unwilling victim around.]

Spider Climb[edit]

You are perpetually under the effect of a spider climb spell, except that you do not need your hands free if you display Wrapsodi's sign, your climb speed equals your (improved) base land speed, and you can use a run action while climbing.

Agile Jumper[edit]

You gain the benefits of the Leap of the Heavens feat, with effective ranks in Jump equal to your effective binder level +3.

Spring Attack[edit]

You gain the benefits of the Spring Attack feat, even if you don't meet the prerequisites.

Hit And Run[edit]

You gain 3d6 skirmish damage, plus an additional 1d6 per 3 effective binder levels. This works just like the scout[1] class feature.
