Burning Ripple Cross Guard
Sunlight Breath (Counter)
Level: 5
Prerequisite: One Sunlight Breath maneuver
Initiation Action: Immediate
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None

Adapting the Red Ripple Drive for defensive use is much more difficult than simply mastering it. However the results are worth it..

You may initiate this counter when you are attacked, gaining a +4 shield bonus on AC as well as DR 5/— against the triggering attack. If you were attacked in melee by a conductive weapon, you may deal 2d6 fire damage to the attacker. If the attacker's weapon was metallic, conductive or not, it is automatically heated as per the 3rd round of heat metal. The weapon then cools off at the normal rate for the spell. The shield bonus to AC granted by this maneuver stacks with other shield bonuses to AC.

You may spend 1 point of breath energy as part of initiating this maneuver, increasing the shield bonus by +2, the DR by 3 and the damage dealt to the attack by +3d6.
