An aberrant troll cavestalker is a terrible creature created through magic and experimental alchemy, much like a homunculus. They're generally found in the employ or presence of allies that outfit them.

The creatures are built like lanky trolls with pale flesh and tough hides. Their heads resemble those of ordinary humanoids, until they distend their jaws, revealing a gaping throat filled with thorn-like teeth. They stand around nine feet tall and weigh close to five hundred pounds.

These beasts crave flesh and bone, but can subsist on a meager diet of minerals if necessary.

Aberrant troll cavestalkers speak Common and Giant. Their voices are unnervingly human-like.

Combat[edit]

A cavestalker's natural attacks count as magic weapons for the purposes of bypassing damage reduction and ignore hardness 8 or less on objects.

A cavestalker makes full use of its scent ability to track as well as sniff out minerals. It can make an appropriate knowledge check to identify anything it detects with its scent.

Flexible Body: A cavestalker gains a +4 racial bonus on Escape Artist and counts as a size smaller for squeezing.

Gullger Dantian (Su) and (Sp): Once per day, a cavestalker can activate its gullger dantian, an organ that produces potion-like substances that are stored until needed. As a swift action, it gains the benefits of resist energy (acid and fire 20) and expeditious retreat as a 7th level caster. These benefits are treated as a separate effects for the purposes of dispelling.

A gullger dantian can be harvested and milked for 1 dose if gone unused for the day, which spoils and becomes inert after 24 hours.

Insidious Death Throes: When a cavestalker dies, its body erupts into a poisonous vapor as an inhaled poison in a 20 foot spread. Creatures exposed to it must make a Fortitude save (DC 26) or suffer 1d8 Constitution damage (primary and secondary). On a successful save, the Constitution damage becomes poison damage instead.

Insidious Toxic Biology: If a creature bites the cavestalker, it is subject to the terrible poison in its blood (Fortitude DC 26) which deals 1d4 Constitution damage (primary and secondary). On a successful save, the Constitution damage becomes poison damage instead.

Psionic Lance (Ps): A cavestalker's psionic lance is a ray with a range of 60 feet as a ranged touch attack, hitting a single target. It deals 5d10 untyped damage, and is the equivalent of a 5th level psionic power. The ray is subject to power resistance, and deals half damage to objects before hardness.

Rend (Ex): If a cavestalker hits with both claw attacks, it latches onto the opponent’s body and tears the flesh. This attack automatically deals an additional 2d8+15 points of damage.

Troll Regeneration (Ex): A cavestalker naturally heals 5 HP every round unless struck by either fire or acid damage, which suppresses its healing for that round. It cannot die by damage unless dealt fire or acid damage that would bring it to or below its threshold of being dead. If a cavestalker loses a limb or body part, the lost portion regrows in 3d6 minutes. The creature can reattach the severed member instantly by holding it to the stump.
