Airu

Bipedal cats known for hunting prey far larger than themselves, they are hunter-gathers, scavengers, scouts, and game hunters for fun, glory, and survival.

Personality

Brave, cunning, clever, and playful, it is understandable why some would be convinced an airu is merely some feline who had sat upon their hind legs. Hunting is in their blood, and even their playfulness exhibits practice murder. However the airu take it to entirely new levels for they quicken the blood and feel the rush of the hunt by taking on targets far larger and stronger than their diminutive frames would suggest. They are proud of their accomplishments, and are known for taking trophies or titles to claim their successes in life.

Physical Description

Appearing not unlike a bipedal housecat or bobcat, airus are far more adorable their their keen hunting senses would appear. They are nimble and swift, capable of climbing walls with their sharp claws, and possessing keen night vision in the dark. Their fur patterns come in many designs and colors, and are often further augmented by the use of body paints.

Relations

The airu traditionally lived in roaming tribes which followed the paths of their migrating prey. However it is not uncommon for them to enter civilization for trade and rest, and they set up tents outside of towns. For many, they get the stereotype of being traders who not only trade from town to town but also sell rare and exotic monster parts and meat, making them a favorite of alchemists. The stories they tell, while often exaggerated, also inspire those who hear them.

Alignment

While an airu can be of any alignment, many are true neutral. They live within nature, value the tribe, but have little connection to those outside of it.

Lands

Airus are nomads at heart and while they can be found in any land, they often patrol the same general areas for their tribe depending on what they hunt. As a results different breeds of airu have developed, none separate genetically but having varies appearance from shaggy thick furred cats of the north to hairless cats in the desert.

Religion

Gods of hunting, courage, and battle are favorites of an airu.

Language

Airus speak Common and Sylvan.

Names

Airu pick up various names as appropriate for cultures nearby to them, often tinged with a title. Their titles also serve as their last names, being the son or daughter of a trade or task and, if they are successful, establishing a new last name and title for some great deed or accomplishment.

Racial Traits

  • Hunter (Ex): Airu gain Track as a bonus feat. If they would gain Track as a feat, they can now Track even subjects hidden by magic such as pass without trace and may track at full speed with no penalty, or twice normal speed at -10 penalty.
