Using a specially prepared focus, you cast this spell as a swift action.  The next spell you cast before the end of your next turn is affected by a single specific metamagic feat that increases the spell's level by 0, without increasing the spell's level or casting time.  If you possess a metamagic feat, you may cast this spell without a focus. 

Simply knowing this spell allows spontaneous casters to apply metamagic without increasing the casting time.

This spell's level is variable.  You may cast this spell to apply a metamagic feat that adjusts a spell's level by 1 or more levels, if you do so this spell is treated as and uses a spell slot of twice the metamagic feat to be applied's adjustment.


''Focus:''  A piece of jewelry worth 100 x (metamagic adjustment)<sup>2</sup> gp.  Each metamagic feat requires its own focus. A +0 adjustment metamagic feat's focus costs 50gp. Variable adjustment metamagic foci have variable costs, but a more expensive one can be used for lower adjustments.

''Example'': A sorcerer wants to maximize his fireball spell.  He casts Alter Spell (Maximize) as a swift action using his Maximize Spell focus ring (cost = 900 gp), Alter Spell (Maximize) is a 6th level spell.
