Arcane Key
Transmutation
Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 2
Components: V, S, F
Casting time: 5 rounds or 1 minute; see text
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One object that can fit in the palm of your hand
Duration: Permanent
Saving Throw: Will negates (Object)
Spell Resistance: Yes (Object)

Holding the stone in your hands, you mutter the magic words and give it an unearthly blue glow. You then give the stone to your minion, which passes through your arcane locked door and begins its patrol of your tower.

With this spell, you designate a single object capable of residing comfortably in the palm of your hand as a key to an arcane locked portal (for the purposes of this spell, "portal" is used as a generic term for any arcane lockable object, including but not limited to doors, chests, and actual portals to other planes). The creature that holds the key is capable of passing through the portal as if it was the arcane lock's caster for as long as the key remains on its person. One key can function for any number of arcane locked portals, but you have to cast this spell for each arcane lock that you want the key to bypass. You must be holding the object to converted into a key while casting this spell, and you must be standing within Close range of the arcane lock to be bypassed. The casting time for this spell is normally 5 rounds. You can make an arcane key for any arcane lock, but if you attempt to make an arcane key for an arcane lock that was not cast by you or whose caster has not implicitly or explicitly given you permission to make arcane keys for that portal, the casting time is extended to 1 minute and you must succeed on a Spellcraft check (DC = 13 + the caster level of the arcane lock) or your arcane key spell fails. An arcane lock's caster can give permission for only a limited number of arcane keys if he or she so chooses (this is mostly to allow for a person who doesn't know arcane key to commission somebody else to make an arcane key for him or her without giving the "keysmith" the means to bypass the lock themselves). A caster can also give permission for some, but not all of his arcane locks (enabling him to set up multiple levels of security).

Focus: The object to be made into an arcane key, which must be in your hand, and the arcane lock to be bypassed, which must be within Close range
