A hulking statue of gold and obsidian stands before you shaped vaguely as a minotaur, eyes aflame with hellfire. A pair of pincers lay pressed on its barrel chest and from its palms squirm two lashes of molten metal which seem to snake alive with malicious intent.

Baatorian Enslavers, also known as edolicentia, are golems crafted in the bowels of hell for the purpose of keeping slaves in line. They are born of infernal metals powered by a heart of hellfire, and the mind of a damned soul who in life sought to oppress others. Intelligent but hopelessly obedient, they take pleasure in controlling their slaves for their amusement, and are always eager to obtain more as cannon fodder for the eternal Blood War.

Combat[edit]

Baatorian Enslavers are rarely alone, always in possession of a group of slaves. They lead their slaves into battle to soften up the enemy, with only passing regard for their slaves so not to lose valuable manpower. Then they advance, taking out weak willed warriors with their spell-like abilities, small and physically weak opponents with grapples and enslavement, and turning the allies against each other. Any who survive will undoubtedly become its slaves, so they can be used against the next most powerful group which comes across them. Against creatures obviously weaker, the edolicentia skips right to combat itself, often grappling and enslaving right away. It keeps the weakest slaves on the sidelines to Terminate easily when needed, and uses Geas/Quest and Marks of Justice on creatures it owns but does not with to keep in its Enslave pool.

Aura of Submission (Su): The baatorian enslaver has a powerful presence which coaxes living beings around it into a submissive state. Creatures within 30 ft. take a -2 penalty on saves against compulsion effects. Creatures immune to compulsion effects lose their immunity, but receive a +4 bonus on saves vs compulsion. This effect extends even to creatures naturally immune, such as undead, constructs, and mindless beings, and some baatorian enslavers have managed to dominate such creatures before.

Enslave (Su): A baatorian enslaver can dominate other beings, forcing them into its service. When it has grappled a creature, it can make a second grapple attempt. If the target fails the grapple, they are pinned and must make a DC 19 Will save, or receive a cursed mark which acts as dominate monster. A baatorian enslaver can keep up to a number of creature's HD equal to twice its own HD (so a 14 HD enslaver can control 28 HD worth of creatures). A baatorian enslaver can choose which creatures to release dominion on as a free action, though it is more likely to Terminate them. Enslavement is otherwise permanent. It can be removed with break enchantment or a remove curse of at least 14th CL. The DC is Charisma-based.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a baatorian enslaver must hit with a lash attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. A baatorian enslaver can grapple up to two creatures at once, and is not considered grappling itself. The lashes remain wrapped around the grappled creatures and keep it busy.

Living Construct Traits (Ex): Unlike other constructs, baatorian enslaver do not have low-light vision, and are not immune to mind-influencing effects. They have an immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, disease, nausea, fatigue, exhaustion, and energy drain. They cannot heal damage naturally, and take half benefit from positive energy cure spells. However they take full benefit from the repair series of spells. They are subject to critical hits (though it possesses 50% fortification), effects requiring a Fort save, death from massive damage, nonlethal damage, stunning, ability damage, ability drain, and death and necromancy effects. When reduced to 0 hit points, a living construct is disabled, just like a living creature, and when its hit points is less than 0 and greater than -10 it is inert. It is unconscious and helpless, but stable. They may be raised and resurrected as normal, and have no need to eat, sleep, or breathe, though they may benefit from consumables.

Pain Lash (Ex): The baatorian enslaver possesses two burning whips which connect to their wrists, and they curl around as if living snakes of fire and hate. They are effectively +2 Flaming Burst Whips for the purposes of reach, feats, and spells. They count as both natural and manufactured weapons, and can function as either, typically being used as primary natural weapons. They are a part of the creature and cannot be disarmed or dropped, though the baatorian enslaver can make full use of its hands when not actively wielding its whips.

The pain lashes can deal lethal or nonlethal damage with no penalty, and is not hampered by armor like normal whips. Like a whip, the pain lash can be used against foes anywhere within its reach (including adjacent foes). Using the pain lash provokes an attack of opportunity. It can make trip attacks with a whip, but if it is tripped during your it trip attempt, it cannot drop the lash to avoid being tripped. When using the pain lash, it gets a +2 bonus on opposed attack rolls made to disarm an opponent (including the roll to keep from being disarmed if the attack fails).

See In Darkness (Ex): Baatorian Enslavers can see perfectly in darkness of any kind, even that created by a deeper darkness spell.

Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): At will- arcane mark, bane (DC 13), charm person (DC 13), command (DC 13); 3/day- greater command (DC 17), hold person (DC 15), locate creature (DC 16); 1/day- geas/quest, mark of justice (DC 17), symbol of pain (DC 17)

Terminate (Su): A baatorian enslaver can sacrifice creatures under its enslavement as a swift action, reducing them immediately to -1 hp and dying and granting the enslaver temporary hp equal to 5 per HD of the sacrificed creature. The enslaved creature must be within 100 ft. of the baatorian enslaver, and must make a DC 19 Will save, or have their life essence sucked away. If the creature fails, the baatorian enslaver loses control over the creature. If the creature succeeds they are staggered for 1 round, and the enslaver recieves no temporary hit points. Baatorian enslavers are not afraid to sacrifice their minions to ensure their own survival.
