Components: V, S, M
Casting time: 1 standard action

Effect: One explosive marble/level
Duration: Instantaneous or 24 hours or until discharged; see text
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: No

The magical version of Pop Rocks was not the explosive success in the candy market. Mostly due to the explosive part.

You charge up to one marble per two caster levels with latent high-pressure phlogiston which makes them turn a dull cherry red, though it's too dull to glow. When you cast this spell, you can either launch the marbles immediately, or you can use them as a trap.

If you launch them immediately, they fly out to targets within the spell range. You can choose to focus the marbles on one target or spread them out over many targets. Each marble does 1d4 fire damage and goes off with a loud BANG which deafens the target for a number of rounds equal to the number of marbles they were struck with. A successful Reflex save halves the damage and negates the deafening, and they only need to make one save regardless of the number of marbles which struck them.

You can also turn them into a trap, treating them as caltrops (to a maximum of 20 marbles in a square), but with a Reflex save instead of an attack roll. Instead of stabbing at the foot when tread upon, they explode, dealing their damage, possibly deafening, and certainly alerting all creatures within 120 feet. Reduce the distance by 10 feet for each interposing closed door and by 20 feet for each substantial interposing wall. In quiet conditions, the bang can be heard faintly as far as 360 feet away. As a trap, they have a DC 16 to Spot checks if simply laid on the ground bare, and a +16 to any check made to hide or disguise the trap in the environment.

You can choose to deal nonlethal fire damage with this spell if you wish.

Material Component: A handful of marbles or beads.
