Beasthunter's Hide[edit]

The tribal warriors of the Green Veil have long adapted the custom of cladding themselves within the hides of their prey in order to stalk them unnoticed. The custom spread to the rangers of neighboring civilized societies, and today the beasthunter's hide sees frequent use in untamed woodlands and jungles filled with dangerous beasts.

  1. If the character has some help, cut this time in half. A single character doing nothing else can help one or two adjacent characters. Two characters can't help each other don armor at the same time.

Beasthunter's hide consists of a leather harness padded with the very thick layered hide of wild beasts. Perfect for hunting and handling dangerous wild beasts, the layered hide is highly effective at turning away claws, teeth and blunt attacks, however among medium armors it is very bulky and hard to move in. Beasthunter's hide is always masterwork; price and benefits are subsumed in the above statistics.

The beasthunter's hide provides the following benefits when worn, on top of its general protective capabilities:

  • A beasthunter's hide counts as a masterwork skill tool for the Handle Animal skill.
  • You count as having level 2 cold protection or your existing level of cold protection increases by +2 (see Protection against Cold, Frostburn pg. 9).
  • Against claw, bite and slam attacks as well as unarmed strikes, the beasthunter's hide's AC bonus counts as 4 higher. From these types of attacks, the first 5 points of damage is ignored. This benefit does not extend to manufactured weapons unless they are made from the claws or teeth of animals.
  • When wearing this armor, you cannot be detected by scent.

Craft (leatherworking and hide) DC 21. Market Price 800 gp.
