When the beheliter gargoyle is fully intact, it is given tactical planning and information from the mind within its tail, making them clever and devious opponents.  If this connection is ever lost, it reverts to its feral lower intelligence and its fighting becomes much more direct.

It is common for beheliter gargoylers to get the jump on others, who assume they are statues.

'''Breath Weapon {{Su}}:'''  A beheliter gargoyle has two breath weapons, a cone of fire and a cone of petrifying gas.

The cone of fire extends out to 60 ft, dealing 12d6 fire damage with a [[Reflex]] save for half, DC 21.

The cone of petrifying gas extends out to 30 ft and hangs there for 1 round.  Creatures in the area or passing through it must make a DC 21 [[Fortitude]] save or be petrified as per ''[[SRD:Flesh to Stone|flesh to stone]]''.  The condition is temporary, recovering in 1d4+1 rounds.  However if exposed to the petrifying gas again, they must make another [[Fortitude]] save or have the duration become permanent.  In addition, the petrifying gas is explosive.  A single point of fire damage in the gas cloud detonates it, dealing its fire breath weapon damage in the area and destroying the gas cloud.

Either use of the breath weapon has a 1d4 cooldown.  The save DC is [[Constitution]]-based.

'''Double Body {{Ex}}:'''  The beheliter gargoyle is effectively two creatures (body and tail) in one body.  They have their own actions, but share move actions between them.  The length of the tail is such that it actually occupies (and thus threatens) its own adjacent square.  It can attack with its tail, which has reach but can still attack adjacent squares, and when both the body and tail threaten a creature at the same time they are considered flanked.  The body and tail are targeted separately, but they share a common hp pool.  As a result, area of effect attacks are often effective since it must save twice and takes damage from both tail and body.

The two body parts are in constant communication with each other.  If one side is made unable to fight or is under compulsion or charm, its counterpart can disable the other half as a free action.  This allows them to ignore the compulsion, but they lose the actions the other half granted them.  For example, if dominated the tail could shut down the body.  It can still take the body's move actions, use the tail, and spell-like abilities, but doesn't have access to the body's bite, claw, or weapon attacks nor its breath weapon.

The body and tail can be severed without killing it.  A sunder attempt against the base of the tail deals damage to one of the body parts and they must make a [[Fortitude]] save (DC 10 + 1/2 BAB of attacker + [[Strength]] modifier of attacker) or be severed.  Both sides will continue to function (though the tail cannot move), but the tail will die within 1d4 rounds if not re-attached.

Sundering the tail off before it is dead is said to enable the fresh harvest of a rare demonic organ from its insides.  If a DC 22 Heal check is made on the sundered tail before 1 minute has passed, a pulsing organ known as the Eclipse Stone can be harvested intact.  Eclipse Stones can be used as a component in ''[[SRD:Limited Wish|limited wish]]'', ''[[SRD:Wish|wish]]'', and ''[[SRD:Miracle|miracle]]'' spells, and it removed the XP cost of these spells.  However, it also makes the spell [Evil], and the spell will always be twisted and warped in some way.  Such is the way of demons.
