1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.

Often wielded by wranglers and the law enforcement of certain kingdoms, the bident is essentially a two-pronged spear. The basic bident consists of a wooden staff on which is mounted a hardened steel head with two slightly diverging blades. The edges of a bident's blades are often fashioned in a wavy pattern for the purpose of better grabbing onto the opponent's weapon.

A bident allows both shockingly lethal thrusts and safe disarming methods, making it a weapon favored by many guardsmen for a great variety of situations.

A bident functions like a spear, and like a spear it can be thrown and set against a charge. A bident also confers a +2 bonus to grapple checks and disarm rolls.

A bident can be wielded as such as a martial weapon, but in order to maximize the weapon's effects it must be wielded as an exotic weapon. A wielder with Exotic Weapon Proficiency in the bident gains the following weapon arts:

  • Drill Pierce: You make a single attack as a full-round action that focuses all the momentum you gather in the tips of the bident. As part of the action, you may move up to your land speed in a straight line; in fact, you must move a minimum of 10 feet to perform this attack. If the attack is successful, you impale the target (as per the feat). The initial attack deals +2d6 points of extra damage for every iterative attack granted by your base attack bonus (+2d6 at BAB +6, +4d6 at BAB +11, and +6d6 at BAB +16).
  • Intercepting Fangs: Stance—Your attacks deal no Strength based damage. Against a single foe that you designate upon entering the stance, you gain your Strength bonus as a shield bonus to AC. Once per round, if the designated foe makes an attack action while occupying a square you threaten, you may make an immediate opposed attack roll (adding your bonuses to disarm rolls). If your opposed attack roll beats the foe's attack roll, the attack is interrupted and you may instantly attempt a grapple using your bident.
Entering the stance requires a standard action. Moving more than 10 feet in one round will drop the stance.
  • Capturing Fangs: Bidents are known for how efficiently its twin prongs capture and pin the enemy's weapons. If you start your turn grappling an opponent, you may immediately pin the opponent. To escape this pin, the opponent must either beat you with an opposed grapple check or simply discard the pinned weapon, the latter of which the opponent may do at any time. Enemies that wield light or no weapons cannot be pinned in this way. You cannot use this ability while using drill pierce.
