A small round ball has a hexagonal display on one side projecting a simple face. Small ports along the ball emit surprisingly organic looking tendrils tripped with small three fingered claws. The thing looks like some kind of robotic melon. It speaks in a calm and soothing voice.

Created as a personal companion and babysitting robot, the boubaball is designed to be cute, personable, and intelligent enough to attend to the basic needs of infants, children, or the elderly. It is usually assigned a creature to take care of which it tries to serve them to the best of its ability, even sacrificing itself if need be. They are imbued with a psionic shard of crystal within a soft-bodied robot shell that some have compared to a tentacle-bearing melon. It doesn't help that their rubbery skin also tastes like melon. Not for human consumption.

Boubaballs move by rolling or sometimes walking on two or three tentacle manipulators. Boubaballs speak via telepathy, and thus bypass language barriers with any creature that possesses a language. They are about the size of a cat and weigh 10 lbs.

CombatEdit

Boubaballs do not fight, they are caretakers. They do possess an electrical "nerve" called a shock probe that extends along one of their tentacles. Designed for plugging the device into electrical sockets, the current can be reversed to create an unpleasant non-lethal shock. However, this tool is never used to harm another unless forced to do so via programming, or to drive off harmful creatures which endanger its charge.

Adorable (Ex): The boubaball is considered to be "cute" and has the Adorable trait. The changes to AC are not shown in the statistic block above.

Limited Programming: The boubaball uses its Wisdom score as a stand-in Intelligence score, though it does not gain skills or feats. It is capable of thinking and acting tactically, but has no free will and will follow its programming the best of its ability, using its intelligence to reach the goal with the greatest chance of success. Short term planning and reacting is allowed, but long term planning is usually beyond it.

As a result of its superior intellect, it is capable of taking complex orders up to one paragraph, with multiple exceptions, exclusions, and up to 5 contingencies or if/than statements. However any command done through the program skill override this superior intellect. The boubaball is considered a complex machine.

Psi-Like Abilities (Ps): 2/day- empathy. Manifester level 1st.

Shock Probe (Ex): A touch attack which deals 1 point of non-lethal electrical damage. It is usually used to drive away harmful animals.

Soft Body (Ex): The boubaball is capable of taking non-lethal damage in spite of its construct traits, and converts half of all lethal damage received into non-lethal damage. It repairs non-lethal damage at a rate of 1 point per hour. It also resists falls and damage by grappling and crushing, having effectively DR 10/- against these effects.

Skills: The boubaball has a +4 bonus on Diplomacy and Sense Motive checks.

FamiliarEdit

A boubaball can be obtained as a familiar. It grants a +3 bonus on Sense Motive checks.

ConstructionEdit

Boubaballs are build out of a composite of many different fabrics, metals, plastics, and other materials which must be processed in a factory. In addition its computer core requires special components and programming. The cost of the base material components are worth 120 gp.

Assembling the body requires a DC 16 Craft (technology) check, a DC 16 Knowledge Engineering, or a DC 16 Knowledge Xeno check.

ML 5th; Craft Construct, control object, empathy; Price 1,200 gp; Cost 540 gp + 43 XP.
