Brass knuckles are small metal pieces that are designed to fit around the knuckles, greatly increasing the striking power of a person's fists. Due to the weapon's intricate shape and the high degree of workmanship required to fit the weapon to a human hand, it is usually made of slightly softer and more easily filed metals such as brass or bronze. 

Brass knuckles are considered martial weapons, but can be wielded without penalty by characters that are proficient with [[SRD:Simple Weapon Proficiency|simple weapons]], though the base damage decreases by one step (1d6 to 1d4, 1d4 to 1d3, and so forth). Having access to the [[SRD:Improved Unarmed Strike|Improved Unarmed Strike]] feat, either directly or indirectly such as by having the [[SRD:Monk|monk]]'s Unarmed Strike class feature, increases the brass knuckles' base damage by one step (1d4 to 1d6, 1d6 to 1d8, and so forth).

Brass knuckles are considered [[SRD:Monk|monk]] weapons. Monks are considered to have [[SRD:Martial Weapon Proficiency|martial weapon proficiency]] with brass knuckles.

Brass knuckles greatly impede the mobility of the fingers, conferring a 30% [[SRD:Arcane Spell Failure Chance|arcane spell failure chance]] while worn.
