A rapier is a long, thin bladed thrusting sword often with an ornate hand-guard protecting the hilt and pommel.
Rapier in Real Life
The historical rapier had a blade usually between 38 to 42" long and would typically be diamond sectioned blade for all or most of the length. Rapiers were not fullered for a significant portion of its blade, it is also a piercing blade and is not sharpened except for the tip.
