CarcikomaEdit

The carcikomas are offshoots of the same digital creche that produced aisleds. Not every form they took were humanoid, and time after time crab-like forms were produced.

PersonalityEdit

The AI which inhabit these creatures can vary wildly, but carcikomas typically are created with a sense of practicality, seeking out an ideal state even if the methods to arrive there differ. For this reason, they tend to be social, hard working, and community minded. Function exceeds form, and they care more about results than the means.

Physical DescriptionEdit

Carcikoma are mass production models that resemble a crab the size of a large dog. They have wide flat bodies, multiple legs, a set of small hand-like mandibles, and a pair of grasping pincers for heavier work. Their shells are glossy plastic over artificial muscle and energy-transferring fluid medium, with a softer sponge-like support skeleton along key points of the body. They have two eyes upon extendable stalks with fur-covered "eyebrows" that enhance its senses and give the otherwise faceless carcikoma expressive capabilities. Carcikomas eat many things, extracting bio-fuel from anything they are able to grind down, as well as an auxiliary battery when they have electrical access.

Because of their focus on utility, they are less expressive and chatty to others if it is not needed. They also have a very casual view on the body, willingly subjecting themselves to pain or changing out body parts for grafts if it would be more useful. The older a carcikoma is, the more likely it is to possess unique markings and deformities it gained over its lifespan.

Carcikomas are able to, and actually need to, eat and drink at half the rate of a typical humanoid. Even if denied sustenance they cannot die from it but otherwise take any penalties associated with starvation and thirst. What counts as food to them is very broad, and they do not mind consuming strange things such as dirt and wood, with little regard to how it tastes. So long as they have a source of carbon, salt, copper, and iron from somewhere they can persist. Their mouths are made for consumption, and thus they do not speak with their lungs but communicate via speakers. They eat, but do not need to sleep or breathe. As robots they lack genders, and cannot reproduce naturally. Their blood is green due to high copper content within.

RelationsEdit

Carcikomas almost always have a purpose, and they seek utilitarian ways of achieving said purpose. With that said, the carcikomas are not thoughtless machines and many can develop strong and strange personality quirks and traits. They prefer to keep relations to other creatures to what is required, and anything further beyond is largely pointless, if harmless. Lawful societies work best with them, as they are reliable and forthcoming.

AlignmentEdit

Carcikomas can be any alignment, but trend towards lawful and neutral behaviors.

LandsEdit

The carcikomas are born from computers, and thus they could be considered their "home". They migrate towards places they can begin their work, whatever it entails.

ReligionEdit

While the aisleds that act as their sister race do have the sparks of religion within them, the utility mindset of the carcikoma tends to cause them to dismiss these supernatural concerns for earthly matters.

LanguageEdit

Carcikomas speak Common, as even though they are machines they are designed to interact with other people, not robots, and thus do not inherently speak "computer language".

NamesEdit

Names are a matter of interacting with the other, and if given a name by another they usually stick with it no matter how strange. Between their own, serial numbers suffice as idenficiation.

Racial TraitsEdit

  • +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma: The carcikoma is a well rounded creature in many aspects, but their hard composite exoskeleton and sturdy frame makes them tougher than most. They have no need to be charming and spontaneous, however.
  • Construct: Carcikomas are much more machine than the likes of others, such as warforged. This is both boon and bane.
  • Medium: As a Medium creature, a carcikoma has no special bonuses or penalties due to its size.
  • Carcikoma base land speed is 30 feet. Climb 15 ft
  • Darkvision: A carcikoma can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and a carcikoma can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Low-Light Vision: A carcikoma can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Carcikoma Traits: Carcikomas are not "living" constructs per se, but still possess some traits associated with living creatures. Unlike most constructs, they retain their Constitution score that represents their structural integrity rather than their biology (which they lack). They add their Constitution to the appropriate abilities as normal, but if they take enough ability damage or drain to hit 0 Constitution they do not die, but instead simply go inert until healed. Their auto-repair systems also cause them to recover hp and ability damage from resting as if they were a living creature, and they go inert when they hit 0 hp rather than being destroyed. They perish when they hit -10 hp as normal, but they automatically stabilize, and are immune to bleeding damage as they do not have any blood counterpart. They can be raised and resurrected as if they were a living creature.
Carcikomas are still subject to critical hits, sneak attacks, and nonlethal damage. They can take ability damage and drain, but no amount of damage or drain can kill them (or transform them, such as in the case of a Shadow). They are also subject to mind-affecting effects, but with a +2 racial bonus on their saving throw due to their alien mindset. They are not immune to effects that require a Fortitude save, and can perish from massive damage. It does not gain bonus hp based on size. Carcikomas are treated as warforged for the purpose of prerequisites and for interacting with certain spells and effects.
  • Crab Form (Ex): Carcikomas have a crab-like shape and are Medium size (long), meaning their reach is stunted when growing Large and larger. They technically have four arms, two manipulation arms and two pincers. Items can be held in all four arms, but only wielded in the smaller arms. They wield objects sized one size smaller in their small arms. Their large arms have poor fine manipulation, taking a -2 penalty on any checks requiring such (such as Sleight of Hand) when using their pincers. However, they get a +2 bonus on any checks requiring brute strength using these arms including on most combat maneuvers (such as Bull Rush and Grapple checks) and on Strength ability and skill checks. They can also attack with light weapons in a grapple with their smaller arms at no penalty.
Carcikomas often have trouble wearing armor, requiring costs for monstrous creatures. They have four arms, but retain the normal two ring slots on their smaller arms. They have no torso or waist slots, three feet slots, and two arm slots. They have a carry capacity of a medium quadruped with their effective Strength +2 higher due to their primary claw arms and stable body frame.
  • Crab Walk (Ex): Carcikomas move in all directions very easily. They can move at full speed when traveling at diagonal angles.
  • Forged Body (Ex): Carcikomas have strong exoskeletons that act as innate armor. They may enhance their bodies as if they were armor with a +2 AC bonus, no Max Dex, no armor check penalty, and a 5% arcane spell failure. They count as metal for interacting with spells and other effects, but may still level in druid without consequence. They count as either no armor or light armor, whichever is beneficial. They may also enhance their unarmed strikes as if they were manufactured weapons, and enhance any natural weapons they acquire. They qualify for Warforged racial feats and may count as a warforged when beneficial.
  • Immunities: Carcikomas are unaffected by positive and negative energy damage, and cannot benefit from positive or negative energy healing (repairSpC spells function just fine). They are immune to energy drain, exhaustion, fatigue, chemical paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
  • Natural Weapons (Ex): Carcikomas have two feral strike (pincers) that deals 1d8 bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage with a 20/x3 critical. They can spend a feat to acquire the benefit of Improved Grab with their pincer to grab a creature at least one size category smaller than itself.
  • Steady Specialization (Ex): Choose one skill. You can always take 10 on this skill even when stressed, and it becomes a class skill.
  • Stability (Ex): The carcikoma gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground).
  • Automatic Languages: Common
  • Bonus Languages: Any (except secret languages)
  • Favored Class: Any
  • Level Adjustment: +0
  • Effective Character Level: 1
