Cheval

Cheval were horse headed nomads and warriors with brave spirits and strong bodies. Back then they would roam the open plains of their native land, hunting great plant beasts and harvesting groves while spreading new seedlings in the wild. These lands would eventually encounter humanoids who conquered the plains. Thus their civilization split into the cheval-zahm, who found purchase within civilization and eventually became intermixed with the other humanoids, and the cheval-fier who rejected civilization and remained nomads, though now ones bitterly pushing back upon the march of civilization. They are the same species, though their cultures differ greatly.

Personality

The cheval-zahm are seen as dutiful and kind beings, who have great physical prowess and who usually go out of the way to help others. They tend towards promoting concepts of chivalry, bravery, and justice.

The cheval-fier are usually less cordial. They are also brave, but wild, and consider strength and enduring hardships virtues. They refuse to be placed under the heel of authority, and recognize only power. This makes them an enemy to the civilized, but also a fierce foe of tyranny.

Physical Description

The cheval are large and muscular humanoids with short fur over their bodies, long limbs, hooved digitigrade legs, and equine heads and tails. Their fur colors and patterns run the gambit expected for horses. Their hair tends to run down the back of their neck to the top of their spine or further, and many have thicker fur coats along their wrists and ankles. The typical cheval will stand between 5 and 7 and a half feet tall.

Cheval-zahm are herbivores and have no desire for meat, but (perhaps due to need) the cheval-fier have become more omnivorous over time and can be found eating other creatures or, if need be, each other.

Relations

Cheval-zahm typically have good relations to most civilizations and gain the stereotype of being useful, though some uncharitable types may think them as useful idiots who are far too trusting for their own good.

Cheval-fier on the other hand are seen as paranoid, aggressive, and incapable of reason. This too is a stereotype, but the cheval-fier often desire little to rely on the abilities of others.

Alignment

Cheval-zahm are usually lawful aligned, and non-evil. Cheval-fier are usually chaotic aligned.

Lands

Cheval-zahm can be found within the realms of any humanoid society, while cheval-fier live in their own tribes outside. Both prefer plains, but many can be found worldwide.

Religion

Cheval tend to focus on deities of travel, strength, battle, self improvement, and struggle.

Language

Cheval speak Common and Sylvan.

Names

Cheval names are often considered descriptive, either of personality or appearance, such as "Augustus" for a fall-hued individual or "Wildmane" for one with hair shaggy and thick.
