Coldblood

The coldblood are dead, and were always born dead. They are the result of necromantic influence upon a normal living humanoid, creating something unliving and undying.

Personality

Born devoid of life, the coldblood have a certain personal coldness to their behavior. Their emotions are muted. Joy, sorrow, fear, humor, all these things seem more forced, more a habit of mimicry than any honest emotion. This is not to say the coldbloods are emotionless, but it takes much to push them to emotional rapture, and when brought to such extremes they often hold these emotions, grudges, and feelings deep and long.

Physical Description

A coldblood is traditionally a human corrupted from birth by necrotic energy, and born dead. Often mistaken for a stillbirth these children are buried or discarded only for them to rise to "life" 7 days later. For those not slain for being some kind of horror-child, they begin to live otherwise normal lives if not considered cursed beings themselves. They appear as humans (or whatever humanoid stock they come from) with paler skin, gray or dull colored eyes, subject to early graying of the hair, and early signs of aging even at a young age. However even as they shrivel and wither, they never perish of natural causes. Coldbloods, true to their name, have a body temperature lower than normal being lukewarm at best, and sometimes completely matched with their surroundings if they have not fed recently.

Relations

A coldblood often has poor relations, especially if born as part of an accident. In places where knowledge of how and why coldbloods are born are present they may experience a more fruitful life, and their society caters to their otherwise dark biology.

Alignment

Coldbloods can be any alignment, but their innate dullness promotes neutrality and non-good behaviors, as it is easy to slip into evil by lack of action.

Lands

Coldbloods form from necrotic corruption in an area, and these lands may have a long history with the undead or negative energy.

Religion

Coldbloods do not often have the zeal for religion, but many recognize having a patron protective of the undead is beneficial to their existance.

Language

Coldbloods speak Common, and any one other language associated with their subtype. If their subtype is Human, they also speak Necril.

Names

Coldbloods have the same names associated with their parent humanoids.

Racial Traits

  • +2 to any attribute, -2 Charisma: Coldbloods come in many different flavors, but most do not have charisma. They can place their bonus in charisma for a net of +0, leaving them on par with a normal human.
  • Undead (Dark Minded, Human, Unliving): Most coldbloods are initially human. Some can be of other humanoid stock, giving them the dwarf, elf, orc, or similar subtypes instead.
  • Medium: As a Medium creature, a coldblood has no special bonuses or penalties due to its size.
  • Coldblood base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision: A coldblood can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and a coldblood can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Coldblood Staunch (Ex): When subject to any bleed effect their thick, cold blood rapidly seals itself. Any bleeding effect does not last for longer than 1 round.
  • Coldblood Traits: While undead, the dark minded and unliving subtypes mean they do not share all the traits of the undead. They retain their Constitution score, and only retain immunity to death effects, disease, and poison in addition to the alterations brought about by their subtypes. They also benefit from a constant endure elements as an extraordinary effect, as they care little for ambient temperatures. Like normal undead, they heal from negative energy and inflict effects and are harmed by positive energy and cure effects. They can be raised and resurrected, but because they were always dead they merely are revived as an undead coldblood once more.
Coldbloods have a minimal biology. They must breathe, eat, drink, and sleep. However, they consume food and drink at 1/4th the rate of a normal human, and last twice as long without air as a normal human. If denied air, coldbloods do not die, but rather become inert until they are exposed to air again. If starved or dehydrated, they are sickened until they can obtain the needed nourishment. Like a living creature, they do not die until they hit -10 hp, and automatically stabilize when brought below 0 hp.
  • Necromantic Boost: Add +1 to the Difficulty Class for all saving throws against necromancy spells cast by coldbloods. This adjustment stacks with those from similar effects, such as the Spell Focus feat.
  • Necromantic Knowledge: +2 racial bonus on Knowledge Religion, and can make Knowledge Religion checks untrained. Knowledge Religion is always a class skill.
  • Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): 1/day- deathwatch. Caster level is equal to the coldblood's HD.
  • Turn Resistance (Ex): Coldbloods have +4 turn resistance. They also react to turning and rebuking differently. Turned coldbloods are treated as shaken instead of normal turning effects until approached within 10 ft or out of combat for 1 minute. Destroyed instead becomes panicked. Rebuked coldblood take a -2 penalty on all d20 checks against the rebuker, and are subject to suggestion if they would be commanded instead.
  • Automatic Languages: Common and either Necril or one humanoid language
  • Bonus Languages: Any (except secret languages)
  • Favored Class: Any
  • Level Adjustment: +0
  • Effective Character Level: 1
