Mikhailanjelo the gnome bard and neo-expressionist painter was hired to conquer an occupied stronghold in the plains of Romusca. Not to be outdone, the defenders sent a burly hill giant armed with a boulder tied to a treetrunk onto the field to deal with the troublemaker. Wasting no time, Mikhailanjelo's brush swished through the air and conjured a red symbol on the gate, prompting the lumpy-faced giant to immediately swivel on the spot and smash his own gate down. The orcs occupying the fort preferred surrendering over falling victim to the gnome's weird magic.

Colors trap is, as some might say, a rather insidious bit of magic. Originally invented by a wizard painter who used his craft to channel his spells, the mark of a colors trap mentally affects one or multiple targets.

You may apply one colors trap as a standard action per round of duration. A colors trap is a symbol of a specific colour, on a 5-foot square of terrain or wall, or on a person. The effect created depends on the color used as noted below. All effects last until discharged, though they will end automatically if the spell itself ends. Only one colors trap may be active at any one time, plus one additional colors trap for every 6 caster levels over 7th. Creatures that venture out of the range of a specific area-affecting colors trap they failed a save against remain affected until the symbol is disturbed.

A colors trap can be nullified by pouring water or other liquid over it (such as grease) or by smushing the symbol with a substance of a different color, or in the case of a targeted colors trap, by removing whatever clothing or equipment the symbol is cast upon. Blind creatures are unaffected, as are any creature without line of sight to an area colors trap. Creatures with no appreciation for color, such as colorblind creatures, cannot be affected by the colors trap. Similarly, in areas of total darkness, the spell also has no effect.

Each color can only be used once.

Annoying Orange: You place a large, orange symbol consisting of uneven, criss-crossing strokes on a 5-foot square surface in range. Any creature within 20 feet of the symbol is overcome by strange noises that exist only in their mind. Creatures affected must make a Will save each round or become incapable of using the Concentration skill for the duration of the round, rendering them unable of casting spells, initiating maneuvers, and performing any other special attack that may force a Concentration check under certain circumstances. Even if they succeed on the save, they are still forced to make a successful Concentration check against the DC of the colors trap to use any spell, maneuver or special attack.

Drowning Blue: You mark a creature with a light blue symbol as a ranged touch attack with a range equal to that of the spell. A creature struck by the paint is sickened and must make a Will save each round or be overcome with the idea that he is drowning for the duration of the symbol. He can take single actions only and must make Constitution checks as if he is suffocating each round, falling unconscious upon failure (but never losing hit points or dying). The effect ends if whatever clothing the symbol is on is removed (at least a full-round action or more, depending on the clothing).

Indifferent Indigo: You place a large, indigo symbol consisting of smooth, rounded strokes on a 5-foot square surface in range. Any creature within 20 feet of the symbol must make a Will save each round or become absolutely indifferent to anything around them, including their comrades, for the duration of the symbol. Affected creatures are unfriendly towards everyone, and will pointedly refuse any and all requests made of them. Creatures affected by this color may attack only as reciprocation for an attack made against them the previous round, and only against those creatures that made such an attack during that round.

Laughing Yellow: You mark a creature with a yellow symbol as a ranged touch attack with a range equal to that of the spell. A creature struck by the paint is overcome by uncontrollable laughter that is distracting enough to render them stifled. This effect allows no save, though can be removed by removing the clothing or cover that the symbol is painted on (at least a full-round action or more, depending on the clothing).

Rancorous Red: You place a large, red symbol of haphazard red strokes and lines on a 5-foot square surface in range. Any creature within 20 feet of the symbol must make a Will save every round. On a failed save, a creature still acts normally, but whenever it attempts an attack action, it is overcome by a sudden surge of hatred for the red symbol. Instead of attacking its target, the creature moves up to its land speed as a forced free action towards the symbol, and attack the ground or wall the symbol is drawn onto (if in range). Once a creature fails its save, the effect persists for the duration of the symbol.

Torporous Green: You mark a creature with a green symbol as a ranged touch attack with a range equal to that of the spell. A creature struck by the paint becomes fatigued, and must make a Will save or become exhausted instead. Unlike the other colours, this effect is permanent until the target rests or is restored, though as long as the symbol remains, the effect cannot be removed.

Focus: A well equipped paint palette and a brush.
