Consumptive Field
Necromancy [Death, Evil]
Level: Cleric 6, Greed 6, Sorcerer/Wizard 6
Components: V, S
Casting time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Area: 30-ft. spherical emanation, centered on you
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

This devilish spell saps the life of wounded creatures (those that have their hit points reduced to a quarter of their maximum or less) within 30 feet of you, forcing them to make a Fortitude save or die. A successful save makes the creature immune to the effects of the consumptive field for 24 hours. This spell’s effect occurs upon casting and automatically at the beginning of each of your turns after the initial casting.

The souls of creatures slain by this spell are absorbed into you, but only those with a sufficient ability (three CR lower than your caster level at minimum) possess enough power to actually rejuvenate you in any meaningful way. On any turn in which such a creature is slain and their essence absorbed, you gain a +4 profane bonus to Strength until the beginning of your next turn. In addition, you are healed a number of hit points equal to the HD of each creature killed and any extra hit points are acquired as temporary hit points; you may only gain up to one third of your full normal hit points worth of temporary hit points by this spell.
