Cursed Oni Mask[edit]

Activation: One-use, use-activated.
Weight: 0.5 ½ lb.

This thin wood and resin mask is painted a bright red with a simple menacing face baring its teeth. Two short horns jut from the mask's forehead.

The mask functions much like a mask of becoming. Upon donning the mask, it cannot be removed, melding with the wearer over the course of 1d4 minutes as they are transformed. This counts as a Polymorph effect. The subject's appearance changes to match an oni version of themselves. They gain short horns, red skin and other oni features. This grants them a +4 bonus on checks to avoid being recognized as their former selves.

After 24 hours, the mask loses its magic, transforming the wearer back and falling off, non-magical and used up. A remove curse or stronger effect, immediately followed by a successful Strength check (DC 20) within 1 round is required to remove the mask early, ending its effects.

While worn, the mask grants the following effects to the wearer:

  • Count as an Outsider in addition to their previous type.
  • Count as Evil and Chaotic whenever it wouldn't be beneficial.
  • Darkvision 60 feet.
  • Proficiency with the greatclub and tetsubo.
  • Cannot get drunk, feeling only slightly woozy from overdrinking. Alcohol counts as food and drink for the wearer.
  • Gain racial ability bonuses of +6 Strength, +2 Dexterity and +4 Constitution. This cannot increase scores (before enhancement bonuses and size bonuses and penalties) up to a maximum of 24 Strength, 20 Dexterity and 22 Constitution. These ability bonuses can be dispelled, returning 1 minute later.

The mask has no effect when placed on an animal, construct, magical beast, ooze, undead or vermin.

After the magic of the mask is used up, the focus mask can be re-enchanted for half the magical crafting cost.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, alter self, bestow curse, some part of an oni (such as blood, hair, nails or horns), a focus mask worth at least 200 gp.
Cost to Create: 750 gp (plus focus mask), 60 EXP, 2 days.

Greater Cursed Oni Mask[edit]

This mask functions as the cursed oni mask except its magic does not wear out after use and it has no maximum duration. This mask can be taken off after an hour has passed with no check or beforehand with a successful Will save (DC 20) followed by a Strength check (DC 20) the same round. Failure to make the Will save requires the wearer wait 1 minute before they try again.

If you wear it for a year, you become an oni, and a mask of becoming of your old form falls off instead.

Prerequisites: Unique item, cannot be crafted.
Market Price: 40,000 gp

Cursed Oni Becoming Mask[edit]

After 24 hours, the mask falls off becoming useless, but the creature is cursed forevermore as an oni.
