Dao Seeker's Robe

“Non-existence” I call the beginning of Heaven and Earth.

“Existence” I call the mother of individual beings.

Therefore does the direction towards non-existence lead to the sight of the miraculous essence, the direction towards existence to the sight of spatial limitations.

Both are one in origin and different only in name. In its unity it is called the secret. The secret’s still deeper secret is the gateway through which all miracles emerge.

Every sentient being in this endless world lives its life while seeking some form of truth. Some seek the truth behind life. Others, the truth behind themselves. Others still, the truth behind the world. Those few that cultivate their bodies and minds and dedicate their lives to the search are known as Dao seekers, and through decades of learning and observation, the robes worn by these ascetics will invariably be left with an imprint of the Dao that was sought.

Dao seekers' robes are not made. They can be found, but not looked for. Only by being worn and absorbing the quintessence of heaven and earth through its wearer over a long period of time can a piece of clothing become a Dao seeker's robe.

A Dao seeker's robe provides the following benefits when worn, on top of its general protective capabilities.

  • A Dao seeker's robe counts as a masterwork skill tool for the following skills: Autohypnosis, Concentration and Sense Motive.
  • You gain a bonus to Will saves, as well as to all saves against Ki-based effects, equal to the robe's magical enhancement bonus to AC.
  • A Dao seeker's robe allows its wearer to draw in the qi in the world around them, and amplifies the qi within themselves, boosting a number of different class features, as follows:
    • You initiate maneuvers from the Anima River martial discipline at +2 initiator level and +1 to the save DCs, and you can recover a maneuver from this discipline as a standard action at will, or as a free action once per encounter.
    • A Ki master's spells ignore the robe's arcane spell failure chance, and your Constitution score (or highest applicable mental ability score) counts as 4 higher for the purpose of determining the number of bonus spells per day.
    • Any Ki-based special attack, such as a monk's Stunning Fist, gains 2 additional uses per day and a +2 bonus to its save DC.

Market Price 3,500 gp.
