Well known for their widespread use by the Bathmoran Deep Delvers, these blue-tinted pickaxes seem to heighten the wielder's perception when it comes to stones, and carve their way through any mineral substance with remarkable ease. Each Bathmoran delver that reaches adulthood without dying in the Depths is given their own delver's pick, which they bear with pride as a symbol of their status and accomplishment.

For all intents and purposes, the delver's pick uses the statistics of a +1 neutralite heavy pick. Its head is fashioned from an alchemically refined mixture of neutralite and blue diamond dust that emits a soft blue glow that casts shadowy illumination out to 15 feet, providing sufficient light for a creature with low-light vision to work in dark places. A delver's pick reduces all mineral hardnesses by 10 points unless a mineral's base hardness would be higher than 20. Despite all this, a delver's pick is generally considered a tool and not a weapon.

A delver's pick confers a slight dowsing effect with regards to nearby ores and minerals, granting its user the effects of a dwarf's Stonecunning racial ability after concentrating on the pick for at least 1 round.

The user of a delver's pick is granted a +4 morale bonus to Fortitude saves against fatigue and exhaustion, and to all Constitution checks made to perform tiring and strenuous physical activities.

A delver's pick counts as an improvised weapon against any type of creature or object, with the exception of those listed below:

  • Unattended objects and geography made of solid mineral substance (stone, rock, crystals, etc.)
  • Creatures made of solid mineral substance (stone, rock, crystals, etc.) such as earth elementals and constructs made of such mineral substances.
  • Any creature of the Earth subtype.
  • Any creature or object that takes damage from a shatter spell.

Against these types of creatures, a delver's pick also bypasses immunity to critical hits.

Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor or Craft Wondrous Item, lesser retoration, shatter, crafter must have 8 ranks in Knowledge (dungeoneering).
Cost to Create: 500 gp, 40 EXP, 1 day.
