Desert Dweller [Skill] You are a desert dude, born and raised. Because of this, you are adept at surviving in harsh conditions.Prerequisites: Must have spent at least 1 year in the desert. Benefits: This is a skill feat that scales with your ranks in Survival.

  • 0 ranks: Survival is always a class skill for you. You gain a +2 bonus on saving throws against fire effects. You can exist comfortably within temperatures up to 120 degrees without having to make Fortitude saves (see page 12 of Sandstorm). Your protection against heat is level 1 (see Protection against Heat, Sandstorm 14).
  • 4 ranks: You become immune to fatigue. Anything that would leave you exhausted leaves you fatigued instead. Additionally, You treat shallow sand as normal terrain and deep sand as shallow sand. Sand crust does not break beneath your feet, allowing you to move atop it as if it ere normal terrain. (See Sandstorm page 18 for details on sand types and Sand Travel).
  • 9 ranks: You gain fire resistance 5. If you already have fire resistance, it increases by 5. You can exist comfortably in temperatures up to 160 degrees Fahrenheit wihtout having to make Fortitude saves (see Heat Dangers, Sandstorm page 12). Your protection against heat is level 3 (see Protection against Heat page 14 of Sandstorm). Additionally, you need only drink a gallon of water every 2 days to be fully hydrated (normally a character must consume 1 gallon of water per day). This amount does not change due to the surrounding temperature (See page 18 of Sandstorm for expanded rules on dehydration).
  • 14 ranks: You treat all sand as normal terrain. Additionally, you add 10 feat to your base speed when in areas with an inch or more of ash, dust, loose earth, or sand. Your fire resistance rises to 10.
  • 19 ranks: You become immune to heat and non-magical fire (breath weapons are considered non-magical fire). Your heat resistance skill works against magical fires. In addition, you need only to drink half a gallon every 4 days to stay hydrated.
