You focus the spell on a small stick, which begins releasing a soft clicking noise whenever it detects radiation (such as alpha, beta, and gamma radiation rather than normal "safe" radiation, generally infrared to ultraviolet. The closer you get to a radiation source, the faster and louder the clicks get. Barriers may block a source of radiation, depending on the type of radiation. The spell tells you the type of radiation being detected.
Focus: A small stick, which is your detection wand.
