NoteEdit

This monster is balanced to fit in a high level of balance game. I have taken the liberty of not using the standard D&D rules for determining various statistics for this monster. As a result, it may seem a bit stronger (or weaker) than some SRD monsters of the same CR and that is fine. I think it will pose an appropriate challenge for characters of its CR.

Flyby Attack (Ex) Dire eagles can perform a flyby attack, as the feat, if they make a single bite attack.
Eagle Eye (Ex) As a move action, a dire eagle can spot a weak point on its opponent and make its next attack this turn against that opponent a touch attack.
Sonic Dive (Ex) As a full round action, a dire eagle can dive bomb a target that is at least 80 feet below the eagle. It moves to threaten the target makes an attack roll with a +2 bonus against the target's AC. If it hits, the target takes 3d6 sonic damage, the eagle takes 1d6 damage, and both of them are stunned until the beginning of the eagle's next turn. If the eagle misses, it takes 1d6 damage.

These birds of prey inhabit nearly every terrain and climate, though they all prefer high, secluded nesting spots.

A typical dire eagle is about 5 feet long and has a wingspan of about 12 feet. The statistics presented here can describe any similar-sized, bird of prey (dire hawk & dire owl, namely).

Strategies and TacticsEdit

Dire eagles are all about the hit and run tactics. They often start a fight out with a sonic dive, stunning a target, which causes the target to drop their weapons. The eagle then tries to beat the crap out of the target, using talon swipes and pecks.

TreasureEdit

The eyes of a dire eagle can be used to make Prophetic Salve. They provide the gold cost and experience cost required to craft the item.

Dire eagle eyes are valued at 600 gp on the open market.
