Spontaneous Arcane Spellcasting, Bardic Music Full

This class is a remake of the Dirgesinger from Libris Mortis, see the book for the original class.

Dirgesinger[edit]

I am never going to give you up, I need you in my life. I will bring you back.
—Unknown Human Dirgesinger

Some bards are connected to death and decay, understanding the increasing entropy of existence and that in the end all things, songs and people, perish and are forgotten. These bards also understand that the dead know ancients songs, forgotten people, memories, forever stashed in the archive of death. These bards tap into the knowledge of the dead, to learn some of their most hidden secrets, and become powerful necromancer in the process.

The path that lead a bard into becoming a dirgesinger is tumultuous and varied. Some are brought into the dark art through mourning a loved one, while other simply seek secrets held only by cold, dead lips. The power of a dirgesinger is sinister and a sight to behold, their mastery of undeath equaling that of necromancers.

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Dirgesinger.

Spellcasting: At each, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a dirgesinger, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Bardic Music: You add your Dirgesinger level to your Bard level for the purpose of determining how many uses of bardic music you have per day and the bonuses (or penalties) granted by your bardic music. You do not gain any new bardic music known however.

Expanded Spellcasting: A dirgesinger is a capable necromancer, being able to learn several powerful necromancy spells. Upon taking her first level in dirgesinger, she add the following spells to her bard spell list, although they must be selected as spell known as normal:

1st—astral fugue, chill touch, inflict light wound, lesser animate dead, paranoia haunt, phantom palm.

2nd— bolt of bones, command undead, ectoplasmic strangulation, gentle repose, halt undead, inflict moderate wounds.

3rd—animate dead, bestow curse, corpse reanimation, enervation, exsanguinate, inflict serious wounds, puppet dance, second coming, skeleton self.

4th—create undead, curse object, freeze blood, gravehorde, inflict critical wounds, raise dead.

5th—bestow curse, greaterSpC, control undead, deathball, finger of death, mass inflict light wounds.

6th—create greater undead, harm, mass inflict moderate wounds, resurrection, steal life, zombie apocalypse.

Dirgesong (Su): At 2nd level and each level thereafter, a Dirgesinger learn a single dirgesong from the list below. Once a dirgesong is learned it cannot be traded for another. A dirgesinger may select a dirgesong with perform requirement higher than her current rank, but she cannot perform it until she reach the minimum amount of ranks. The dirgesinger choose her dirgesong from the following list:

Song of Awakening: A dirgesinger with 8 or more ranks in a Perform skill is able to raise the dead into her service. Once she start performing, she choose a single dead creature within 60 feet whose CR is no higher than her effective bard level. The target raise from the dead at full hit point after 1 round ready to act on her initiative, becoming an undead but otherwise retaining all of it abilities (do not recalculate hit point, attack bonus or anything else). The target remain animated for as long as the dirgesinger keep performing or for 1 minute, after which it collapse and cannot be raise with this performance again. If the raise corpse is destroyed or 1 minute pass, the dirgesinger may continue performing and select another viable target within range as a free action on her turn.

Song of Grief and Sorrow: A dirgesinger can bring intense sorrow, guilt and grief into others with this dark melody. Once she start performing, she may have a number of creature equal to her Charisma modified within 60 feet to take a -2 morale penalties on attack roll, skill checks and saving throws for as long as she perform and 1 round thereafter. If a target is a murderer or guilty of a particularly heinous crime, it must make a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 Character Level + the dirgesinger's Charisma modifier) or become confused for as long as the dirgesinger perform. If it roll attack caster, it instead attack itself (as per death urge) but is allowed a new save against the effect if it survive.

Song of Horrific Apparitions: A dirgesinger with 10 or more ranks in a Perform skill can this truly terrific diregsong. The dirgersinger cause the area within 60 feet of her to be haunted by moaning spirits, which cannot be harmed. All creatures within range, become At Bay from the area. The spirits lingers and claws at the living, dealing swarm damage (with no distraction) as a Swarm whose HD is equal to your effective bard level. Once per round, you may cause the spirits to terrorize a single creature within the area, which replicate a Ghost's Horrific Appearance (DC 10 + 1/2 Character Level + the dirgesinger's Charisma modifier). You can exclude a number of creature from the effect equal to your Charisma bonus when you start performing, you are never harmed by your own performance.

Song of Rattling Bones:As the dirgesinger play this insidious tune, the bones of fallen creatures animate creating her effective bard level -2 in skeletal servants. She may create one or more servant at her choice, choosing between bonedrakes, skeleton elite warriors, human warrior skeletons or spellbones. All of her servant appears within 120 feet of her 1 round after performing, ready to act on her initiative. These servants last as long as she perform or until slain, at which point they crumbles into dust and bonemeal.

Master Dirgesinger: A 5th level Dirgesinger is capable of casting necromancy spells while concentrating on her bardic music without breaking concentration on either. If she is using one of her dirgesong she gain a +2 bonus on caster level and +1 bonus on DC for her necromancy spells.
