Invisible to the naked eye, under the gaze of magic it reveals itself; a swirling chaotic miasma of various putrid clashing colors bubbling and boiling, releasing impure puffs of steam every which way, and with the vague impression of a humanoid visage in conflict screaming from its mass.

A type of loumara, one of the "new" incorporeal and sinister breed of demons to rise from the bubbling oceans of the abyss, the discordant ego (also known as a creonte) is a demon which causes friends to turn into enemies, and order to become disorder.

Found naturally in the abyss, discordant egos fight each other at all times but are utterly unable to hurt each other. However the moment a non-discordant ego appears, they all turn their attention away from their own petty wars and seek to ruin the life of others.

Discordant egos make no noise and cannot speak. They understand Abyssal, and the language of those they are possessing.

Combat

A discordant ego drifts in and attempts to possess a creature. If it fails to possess a creature it will be briefly visible, often breaking its ambush and forcing it to retreat and try again later or combat them. If combating the opponent, it will wear down their will to fight with psi-like abilities and wisdom damage, then go in for the possession. In the worst case, it may settle for simply afflicting a few members with discord before escaping and letting the opponents finish off the job.

Discord (Su): A creature touched by the discordant ego must make a DC 22 Will save or be afflicted by discord. The creature's attitude's towards all creatures becomes hostile (though they won't necessarily attack their friends, not in the middle of combat anyway). As a hostile creature they must resist any helpful abilities from their "friends" and may perform any actions they feel appropriate within their alignment against these former friends, not understanding how they were tricked into thinking they were honest. This is a curse with Permanent duration. The saving throw is Charisma-based.

A few effects can lift the curse. Diplomacy can change the creature's mood as normal within the limitations of diplomacy and enough time. This technically does not remove the curse, but grants the target another saving throw against the effect. This takes at least 1 minute of talking them down. Remove curse and higher effects also breaks it, as does calm emotions.

Immunities (Ex): Discordant egos are immune to ability damage, ability drain, critical hits, death by massive damage, exhaustion, fatigue, mind-affecting effects, nausea, paralyzed, petrification, polymorphing, and sickening.

Improved Evasion (Ex): A discordant ego has improved evasion as a rogue.

Mind Reader (Su): All those within 60 ft of a discordant ego must make a DC 22 Will save or be subject to all three rounds of detect thoughts, with no need for concentration it the discordant ego's part. Its ability to read your mind gives it a precognitive edge against attacks from the creature, gaining a +4 insight bonus on attack rolls, AC, saves, ability checks, and skill checks against them. This lasts as long as they remain in range. The saving throw is Charisma-based.

Mind Sting (Su): With a touch attack, the discordant ego can deal 1d4 points of Wisdom damage. If a creature drops to 0 Wisdom, they are automatically afflicted with discord (see above).

Natural Invisibility (Ex): This ability is constant, allowing a discordant ego to remain invisible with no effort on its part. It works like persistent invisibility (caster level 9th) and lasts as long as the discordant ego is alive. This ability is not subject to the invisibility purge spell. A discordant ego becomes visible 1 minute after it is killed, though it is reduced to a slimy ectoplasmic mess of colors and chemicals.

Psi-Like Abilities (Ps): At will-aversion, inflict pain; 3/day-forced sense link, mind probe; 1/day-brain lock, death urge, forced share pain, psionic modify memory. The save DCs are Charisma based.

Possession (Su): As a full attack action the discordant ego moves into a creature's square (provoking attacks of opportunity) and attempts to possess them. The creature must succeed on a DC 22 Will save, or else the discordant ego melds with them and vanishes. The creature is now under the control of the discordant ego, as if under dominate monster, and they are automatically afflicted with discord. The dominated creature is unaware of the passage of time while possessed. The discordant ego typically takes on a subtle approach. Their goal is not to kill everyone, that ends things too quickly. Rather, they will sabotage all personal relationships the victim has, all while pretending to be the target thanks to knowledge of the target from mind reader, and a good bluff check. At the end of it, when all connections are ruined, they will even set up the situation to make it look like it was their friends who betrayed them (and not the other way around) before willingly departing the body in hopes that the creature will be so overwhelmed by grief they will commit suicide... and likely end up as another discordant ego in the abyss.

Possession can be removed by any effect which frees them of mind control, or by pouring holy water over the head of the possessed creature (which burns them as if they were an evil outsider, but grants the target another save against possession). The target radiates a faint aura of evil while possessed. The saving throw is Charisma-based.

Regeneration (Ex): A discordant ego's regeneration is bypassed by good weapons and effects, and by negative energy damage. A calm emotions spell does not do it's normal effect, but instead causes it's regeneration to be downgraded to fast healing for the duration.
