Main Page design

Hullo! I'm Kirkburn, a Wikia Gaming Helper, and I have a suggestion to make regarding the Main Page. You may be interested in stealing some code from the Wikia Starter wiki which is the current new wiki base design. It makes content a bit easier to add and is easily expanded. Keep up the great work! The current Main Page layout is certainly not ideal. I was actually thinking of implementing something fairly similar to the Forgotten Realms Wiki. The layout couldn't be identical to that, as Spelljammer is a setting made up of countless crystal spheres, while Forgotten Realms is a single planet. But the main layout concept has been designed by wiki-editors that know the needs of a Dungeons & Dragons based wiki, so it fills most of the needs of this wiki.
Unfortunately the Spelljammer Wiki is currently suffering from a lack of content. This means that adding all the sorts of sections in, that style of homepage is going to flood the Main Page with redlinks (as well as slow down the page creation process). At the moment, I'm more tempted to focus my time on getting more stub articles, appropriate redirects and templates created to help establish enough content to make it far easier to know what portals would need to be created to form the basis for an improved Main Page design that was similar to the FR Main Page.
However, I hope it isn't too long before that is done and there are enough articles to get some of those portals up and running. Once two or three portals have been created, it might be time for me to think about working on the Main Page upgrade process.
But in the meantime, don't let me discourage you from joining in and making improvements. David Shepheard 21:26, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
