Born of the blood of The Sleeping God, she a consciousness of water in the Material Plane. Elnade is often thought of as the embodiment of the oceans, lakes and rivers. While distinctly separate from the Elemental Plane of Water, she retains her connection to it. To those with great wisdom (and those with very little), it is said that her voice can be heard in the waves of the water and the drops of rain.

Elnade nourishes life as much as she destroys it. In her constant feud with Aether, she drives the weather with storms, floods, clouds and drought, continually changing the world. The presence of water is often a good enough sign for folks to survive, and she has gained a fair following as a good goddess, despite being fairly even-handed.

Elnade is the mother deity of elnades, a race of water elementals native to the Material Plane.

Dogma

Water may quench your thirst or it may drown you. Water is mutable and uncaring; being both the calm serenity of a early morning lake, or the frightening awe and beauty of a raging storm. When water is understood and respected, it can be directed and used, but never completely controlled, for that power is beyond mortals.

Clergy and Temples

Small shrines are often built to honor Elnade near lakes, river-crossings and wellsprings. Large shrines and small temples are often built in port towns where water drives the people's way of life. Some ships also keep shrines to Elnade to pray for her mercy as they cross her water or fish from her depths.

Simple shrines are often built of large, fitted stone blocks. The center of the shrine is often adorned with pieces of corals and shells. Often, stone pillars can be found near the entrances or fronts of these shrines, typically not connected to other features of the shrine. In wild areas, these shrines tend to draw the attention of aquatic fey folk, such as nymphs and nixies.

Large shrines and temples, usually found near larger bodies of water, are often decorated with carefully laid tile-work in mosaic as well as housing huge masses of corals, shells and other oceanic treasures. Such features are often lit with multi-hued continual flames. Many temples also contain wells, springs or other sources of water.

Many common folk might speak a prayer to Elnade, asking for rains to come or go, a cloud to offer shelter from the heat of the day, smooth sailing or a bountiful day of fishing.

A simple holy symbol might consist of a circle of braided and dyed shark's leather, often attached to a chain or ribbon. Ornate holy symbols are likely to be bound in gold, with inlaid shells and precious stones. Some clergy or worshippers of Elnade get tattoos of this symbol, often adding detail so that it appears braided, much like the more common variety of her symbol.
