This spell is used to encrypt or decrypt text. When cast upon a piece of written text with the intention to encrypt it, whether a book, a tablet or some kind of digital text, the characters shift and warp into code comprised of either normal letters or different symbols and pictograms entirely. A text encrypted with this spell requires a Decipher Script check of DC 20 + your caster level to decrypt. When encrypting a text, you also generate a cipher. This cipher entails the method of encryption, and can be written down on a piece of paper or stored in data format, depending on the type of text that has been encrypted.

When decrypting a text, the inverse occurs, and any code embedded within a text up to a certain level of complexity will be reverted to standard text. When decrypting a text, you make a caster level check with a +5 bonus against the Decipher Script DC of the text. All codes and ciphers with a Decipher Script DC up to the value of the check result are automatically reverted to normal text. If you have the encryption cipher at hand, you can decrypt any text encrypted with this spell without having to make a check.

If the text to be encrypted or decrypted is digital, then Decipher Script may be replaced by Program.

Note that encryption and decryption is verbatim; it does not change wording or context within written script. As such, it cannot be used to translate texts from a different language unless the translation itself is a code cipher.
