You invite an alien mind into your body, swapping places in time and space with it for the time being.  You gain the benefits of ''[[SRD:Divination|divination]]'' except you can divine any event as far into the future as you desire, observing an event relevant to your question.  The future you witness is only one of many future events and the farther forward you look into the future, the more likely you are to observe an image of events subject to change.  Other than this, there is no failure chance for the divination itself.

For the manifester, the event seems to take minutes, days, sometimes even years of traveling alien lands and speaking to strange horrors.  Meanwhile for 10 minutes their body is inhabited by an alien mind which can get up and travel.  The alien is amoral but true neutral, mostly seeking out anything curious it can learn about the world during that time.  It seeks to preserve its body and will not go into harms way (usually).  Anyone who speaks to your body in this state, assuming they can even speak its alien language, may be subject to gaining [[Dark Insight (3.5e Variant Rule)|dark insight]] from the things they might learn.  Perhaps fortunately then, the alien is usually not willing to share information on what it is doing or intending.  Many a psion return to their body with new information, only to learn their body has traveled in the 10 minutes it has taken them on their home world.
