With a faint squelching sound, it emerged from the club moss, ferns and muck of the swamp. It's two dark eyes bulged out on long stalks, blinking out of synchronization with each other.

Enogos are oversized omnivorous slug-like creatures that dwell in warm swamps. Their bodies range in color from stony gray to mossy green. A pair of black eyes jut out on stalks from the front of the creature. An enogo's mouth is a horrible sphincter of multitudinous tiny, shark-like teeth. While very much like slugs, their internal anatomy shows they possess a primitive notochord and a cerebral ganglion, suggesting that the creatures are closer in relation to early basal fish than with mollusks.

In early spring, they lay a clutch of eggs (50-100 or so eggs) which are quickly abandoned after burial in moss and mud. An adult enogo grows to about 12 feet long and weighs about 2,000 pounds. They live for about 8 years or so on average in the wild but captive specimens have shown surprising longevity, dying of sickness or poor conditions before ever reaching what might be their maximum age (which is yet unknown). "Old Balthazar", an older known specimen, lived to be 210 before she was killed when raiders broke in and slaughtered her and her lich owner.

In some regions, enogo are known as eggna.

Basics[edit]

An enogo uses its Wisdom to determine skill points per hit die. It gains a +8 racial bonus on Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Move Silently, Spot and Swim checks and a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks. It also gains a +4 bonus on checks made to escape a grapple.

An enogo always gains maximum HP per HD. It has good Fortitude and Will saves. It has maximum ranks in: Hide, Move Silently, Spot, Survival.

Enogos understand, but do not speak, Common.

Combat[edit]

An enogo prefers to move in silently, slurp up an opponent and stalk away back to whence it came.

Moist: An enogo's body is mostly water and is dealt 150% damage against desiccation and fire damage effects.

Slime Trail (Ex): An enogo leaves a trail of slippery slime behind it, which counts as difficult terrain but also grants trackers a +8 bonus on their check to track it. So long as it is on solid ground, an enogo cannot be made prone. Additionally, an enogo takes no penalty to Hide or Move Silently for any movement.

Splortch! (Ex): An enogo can spit a wad of gunk with a range increment of 50 feet as a ranged touch attack with a +0 bonus. If the gunk hits, the target is treated as entangled by a tanglefoot bag, except the duration is doubled. It can use this ability once every 1d4+1 rounds or refresh it with a standard action.

Slurp (Ex): If the enogo hits with its bite attack, it gains a free slurp attack, though it provokes an attack of opportunity for doing so. A slurp attack is made as its bite but covers the target in slippery goop, counting as a disarm attempt with a +4 bonus that does not provoke any further.
