This small creature takes on an uncanny likeness to a fox.

The faux is visually indistinguishable to a fox by anything other than a close examination. Its true nature is revealed by its behavior. The creature possesses dense, luxurious fur, making it sought after by fur trappers. If prepared to be eaten, its meat is rubbery. So long as the poison gland isn't consumed, it is otherwise edible if "tangy" or "irregular" in flavor.

Combat[edit]

A faux prefers to blend in and not cause a stir, but if provoked, it defends itself vigorously. If badly wounded or outnumbered, it attempts to flee through small spaces where pursuers cannot follow.

Boneless (Ex): A faux is supported internally by a series of segmented, fluid-filled muscular bladders. As such, it can squeeze through spaces as if it were a Fine creature and gains a +4 bonus on such checks. A faux takes minimum damage from falling, being pushed or being thrown into things.

Faux Aura (Su): A faux radiates an unusual aura. Those that detect the faux by sight must make a Will saving throw (DC 17) or be convinced that the faux is actually a fox, despite any evidence suggesting otherwise. The save DC is Charisma-based. This effect lasts for 8 hours after having last seen the faux. Creatures that save against this effect are not aware they made a Will save.

Ventriloquism (Su): A faux can imitate sounds and voices it has heard after 1 minute of listening. It may mimic speech or sounds and throw its voice. This ability duplicates the effects of ventriloquism.

Venomous Bite (Ex): A faux possesses a venom delivered by its bite. A bitten creature must make a Fortitude save (DC 11) or take 1d2 Strength damage and become audio-sensitive (primary and secondary). Any sound over a whisper will give the afflicted creature a headache for 1 round. Being audio-sensitive lasts for 1 minute from this poison. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Familiars[edit]

A faux can be used as a familiar for spellcasters with the Improved Familiar feat and at least caster level 3rd.
