This magical light steel shield is round in shape and seems ordinary, if exceptionally wellmade, except for a peculiar smooth gemstone embedded within its boss that changes colour depending on the type of energy that hits it. When you take damage from a specific energy type or are negatively affected by an spell or effect with the corresponding element (including non-damaging curses, debuffs and afflictions), you gain protections as follows:

  • resistance to the energy type equal to 5 plus 5 × the shield's enhancement bonus.
  • Mettle and evasion against spells, attacks and effects of the energy type and the corresponding elemental descriptor.
  • A bonus to AC (as well as touch AC) and saving throws against spells, attacks and effects of the energy type and the corresponding elemental descriptor equal to 3 plus the shield's enhancement bonus.

The energy types and their corresponding elemental descriptors are as follows:

This protection lasts for 1 minute after being triggered or until you are hit by a different energy type or element, which overwrites the currently active protection with the new one.

Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, protection from energy.
