FowlenEdit

A race of fey which resemble large chickens.

PersonalityEdit

Physical DescriptionEdit

Fowlen are small, bird-like people with wide-set eyes, slightly elongated beaks, and (mostly) useless wings under their arms. They're covered fully in feathers, have four relatively radial fingers, and digitigrade legs.

RelationsEdit

Fowlen tend to have poor relations with most kinds of giants and dragons (even traditionally good aligned types) as they are famously delicious. Unsurprisingly, being known for how well you taste does not usually lead to good diplomatic relations. Evil giants will keep Fowlen as slaves when possible, as a source of labor, eggs, and eventual meat.

LandsEdit

Fowlen are happiest in areas where they can grow some amount of fruits or vegetables, as well as forage for insects and nuts. Vegetables with large amounts of seeds such as corn and rice are their favorites.

LanguageEdit

As Fey, Fowlen default to speaking Sylvan naturally. They're typically able to speak (albeit poorly) fresh out of the egg.

NamesEdit

Fowlen are often named after things that they can see. As such, names of plants like "Ginger," body parts like "Feather," or other objects like "Pot" or "Tree" are common.

Racial TraitsEdit

  • +2 Constitution, -2 Wisdom: Fowlen are able to keep active continually, but they're known for being easily distractable.
  • Fey (Anthro)
  • Small: As a Small creature, a fowlen gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –4 size penalty on special attack (bull rushes, grapples, overruns, and trips) checks, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but it uses smaller weapons than humans use, and its lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.
  • Fowlen base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Low-Light Vision: A fowlen can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • Ineffectual Wings: Conscious Fowlen minimize falling damage and can glide 5' for every 10' fallen. A Fowlen needs their hands free in order to use this ability. Because of their wings, Fowlen require non-humanoid armor.
  • Cock's Crow (Ex): A Fowlen can let out a loud cry as a standard action. This wakes anyone who can hear within 100' and gives a headache to anyone within 30' for 1 round/3 levels (Will save DC 10+1/2 level+Con mod for 1 round).
  • Like a Chicken... (Ex): A Fowlen can survive with its head cut off. Vorpal weapons (and similar) that succeed in removing a Fowlen's head do not kill it. In fact, it takes no damage from such an effect, however it immediately begins to act as if mindless, blind, and deaf, and flies into a rage (as a Barbarian of half its hit dice, rounded down, bypassing the normal immunities to morale effects). When the rage runs out, the Fowlen is fatigued as normal. A Fowlen that dies with its head cut off is not suitable for being ressurected through raise dead.
  • Automatic Languages: Sylvan, Common
  • Bonus Languages: Any
  • Favored Class: Any
  • Level Adjustment: +0
  • Effective Character Level: 1
