Frostwright Harp[edit]

These harps, originally employed by a unified kingdom of various giants in the distant past, have endured, and have become prized for their utility and sweet sounds, able to strike chords smaller instruments fail to reach.

This large mithral-plated harp is sized for a Large giant, but can be played by a standing Medium creature with only minor difficulty (taking a –4 penalty on Perform checks with it). It otherwise functions as a masterwork skill tool when used in a performance.

When played, the performer may choose to make the music a chilling tune. A chilling tune lowers the ambient temperature of the surrounding 100' radius by 1°F per minute until the area reaches just below freezing and cannot lower the temperature into extreme cold or lower. The area warms or changes its temperature naturally otherwise, and may not be able to achieve its lowest point if competing effects (such as a sunlit desert) are in place.

The frostwright harp is also useful with respect to building. Once a week its strings can be strummed so as to produce chords that magically construct buildings, mines, tunnels, ditches, or whatever, so long as the construction is made from the surrounding ice and snow in a 500' radius. The effect produced in but 30 minutes of playing is equal to the work of 100 humans laboring for three days. Each half hour after the first, a character playing the harp must make a DC 15 Perform (string instruments) check, with the DC rising by 1 for every additional half hour. If the check fails, the construction ends and the harp cannot be played again for this purpose until a week has passed.

The player must make an appropriate Craft check to construct anything requiring a high degree of craftsmanship or detail.
