Funeral Pyre Candle[edit]

Price: 1000 gp
Body Slot:
Caster Level: 5th
Aura: Faint Evocation
Activation: See text
Weight: 1/2 lb.

This pale ash-gray candle sits at about 9 inches tall on a short stand, often stone, but occasionally bronze or other semi-precious material. Faint swirls can be seen within the wax and its heft is greater than its size would otherwise suggest.

When simply lit, this candle illuminates as a candle, though the wax appears to always replenish itself as it never burns down.

If the candle is lit while placed upon a dead body, it instead begins to glow as brightly as a torch. If undisturbed, after 10 minutes, the body is slowly engulfed in smokeless flames, which twinkle and send shimmering sparks rising up into the air. After 1 hour, the flames consume the body wholly and reduce it to ashes. This counts as having performed last rites upon the body and having given it a respectful burial (so long as nothing else is done to disturb this process). After the body is burnt up, the candle falls inert into the ashes and is extinguished until relit.

The magical flames take longer to consume larger corpses, with an additional hour per size increase from Medium.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, consecrate, light, the ashes of a burned creature.
Cost to Create: 500 gp, 40 EXP, 1 day.
