The gnoll was on fours feasting on the remains of something humanoid like a wild hound, possibly one of its own number. A dreadful primal fear falls over you as its head perks up noticing the new flesh arriving.

The drug cocktail used to turn normal gnolls into gnoll shock troopers is sometimes abused. For those unlucky soldiers to both survive multiple combats and continuously expose themselves to the drug, sometimes side effects kick in. One can only hope for a merciful chemically induced death, but the ones that survive transform into beastly raving maniacs with an eternal hunger and endless appetite. For gnoll armies, the gnoll devourer is a useful failure. They are released into failing combats, or situations where everything and everyone must die. The devourer will not stop until all flesh is eaten, and quite often it will turn on its own allies to continue the feast. Their commanders only hope that the battle will also be their execution.

These gnolls warped by drugs have elongated snouts and claws, crazed eyes, and bony spurs jutting from their body. They have long ceased to wear army and often walk around on all fours. They seem to have only a basic understanding of their former lives and alliances, and this sapience is quickly lost in the heat of battle. They must be fed a steady diet of fresh meat while in containment to keep them sated.

Gnoll devourers only scream.

Combat[edit]

Kill everyone. Eat everyone. Kill everything. Eat everything. Kill. Eat. Kill. Eat. Kill. So hungry.

Berserk (Ex): When a gnoll devourer enters combat, there is a cumulative 1% chance each round that it loses sense of friend or foe and goes berserk. The uncontrolled gnoll goes on a rampage, attacking the nearest living creature or smashing some object smaller than itself if no creature is within reach, then moving on to spread more destruction. The gnoll’s former allies, if within 60 feet, can try to regain control by speaking firmly and persuasively to the gnoll devourer, which requires a DC 19 Charisma check. It takes 1 minute of inactivity by the gnoll devourer to reset the gnoll’s berserk chance to 0%. Most gnolls wisely do not bother.

Feast (Ex): The gnoll devourer can consume an entire Medium sized corpse over the course of 1 round. When it feeds it recovers ability damage and hit points as if it had rested overnight. If it is under a status effect which lasts less than 24 hours, the status effect is lifted. It is capable of devouring nearly anything organic, and never is affected by diseases due to eating, spoiled food, or ingested poisons. Larger creatures take twice as long for each size category, while smaller creatures take only a standard action.

Devouring a body, besides rendering it unsuitable for raise dead, is a horrifying thing to witness. Opponents within 30 ft which witness a feeding must make a DC 16 Will save or become sickened for 1 minute. The save DC is Constitution based.

Ferocity (Ex): If a gnoll devourer is brought below 0 hp, the gnoll devourer may immediately take a single standard action as a non-action. They can only use this once per day.

Insanity (Ex): A gnoll devourer is utterly insane. They are immune to all charms, compulsions, and fear effects.

Leaping Pounce (Ex): If a gnoll devourer makes a jump check from a standstill and would reach within the range of their target in their move, they may make a full attack as if they had pounce.
