Holy Squire

You have a young and hopeful apprentice who follow you around, hoping to also become a paladin of legend one day.

Class: Paladin

Level: 5th

Replaces: A Paladin with this alternate class feature do not get a special mount.

Benefit: You gain a special 'cohort' which is a young adult NPC of the same race as the paladin. The cohort use the same character stats as the paladin but with half your hit points and an effective -4 negative levels, which never result in hp or level loss and cannot be removed. This cohort does not share your equipment and must be geared separately. This cohort does not itself benefit from Holy Squire nor can it have any special companion. If the cohort dies or ascend (see below) you must wait 1 month before you may recruit another one. If the paladin fall and fail to atone, the cohort either leave or 'ascend' (see below).

If the paladin dies, fall or otherwise become permanently lost, the cohort may 'ascend' and become the actual character. It now use the paladin's full character sheet and lose it negative levels. In essence the squire become the actual character and the old character an NPCs. This does not grant the gears the paladin was using to the ex-cohort.
