This green caterpillar has a fuzzy back and several "vents" on their body covered in armored scales. It begins making saxophone noises.

A strange species of insect that has an uncanny knowledge of sound and mimicry. With their large drum like ears on the sides of their head they can pick up sounds and repeat them by running air through its body, capable of mimicking even bird calls, music, and voices. It uses this to trick creatures into thinking it is just another one of their kind, or scare them away with predator noises. In the wild they can be difficult to find due to this as they are pretending to be something else. They are known as Copy Crawlers, but some know them as Jazz Worms. This is due to the fact they were first discovered invading urban areas with places with both alcohol and music in abundance, for the insect feeds off of alcohol which it normally obtains by eating and fermenting fruits. When brought to cities, they found bars to be a haven of stronger drinks which they would drink away to their fill. Likewise their natural mimic powers began picking up "jazz songs" and other music, and it has even began to creep into the nearby wild populations.

Bars find them a pest as they consume their products and they are noisy, but some have made them the stars of the show as they can be "trained" to repeat actual complete songs in exchange for food. Though they seem to understand the basic idea of cause and effect they lack any awareness of what they are actually repeating.

Unfortunately for them for some they have made jazz worms into a delicacy. It turns out that consuming alcohol as a fuel source makes the insects themselves rather alcoholic, making it a snack that can get one buzzed.

CombatEdit

Jazz Worms do not willingly fight but if they cannot scare away an opponent, they roll up and extend their quills out hoping the irritation and higher defenses maintain them. They often make sounds which will attract predators of their current predator, ensuring indirect safety.

Mimicry (Ex): Jazz worms can use extraordinary effects of ghost sound (DC 12) and ventriloquism (DC 13) at will. It can usually "remember" up to 5 minutes of sounds. The save DC is Wisdom based.

Quills (Ex): Creatures which take damage from a jazz worm's sting have a thin stiff hair stuck in them. Creatures take 1 point of damage from any stressful action as if they were dying with Diehard until the quill is removed with at least 1 point of healing or a DC 10 Heal check as a standard action.

Roll Up (Ex): A jazz worm can curl up in a ball as a full round action, rendering them immobile (movement speeds 0 ft) and flatfooted but increasing their natural armor by +4. This can replace and does not stack with total defense. While rolled up, any creature striking them with unarmed or natural attacks are subject to its sting attack.

FamiliarEdit

The jazz worm can be taken as a familiar. It grants the owner a +3 bonus to Perform checks. They become intelligent, but lose immunity to mind-affecting effects. On the other hand now that they have a mind they can remember as many songs as they want. They are a favorite for bards
