Kabiork

Kabiorks are distantly related to orcs, or perhaps bears, or both. Once vicious, the species has long since chilled out after a cultural revolution and become fat, jovial, sleepy creatures dedicated to simple comforts and easy living.

Personality

Once long ago, kabiorks were violent beings. They were to orcs as bugbears are to goblins, hairy beastal creatures neither orc nor bear, and as violent as the two beings combined. However the age of war has long past thanks to the effort of their prophet Kabigone from who they took a new name and personality from. Kabigone promoted a philosophy of peace, tranquility, and comfort and showed his kin the means to achieve these without the long bloody raids and struggles his kin had been used to, as well as the mysterious divine backing to keep his followers safe from the more violent members. Thus, through natural selection, soon only they remained and the bloody history of their kind was forgotten as they retreated to their hidden monasteries to relax and think.

Thus the modern kabiork is a being of comfort, some may say sloth, and of meditation. However they are no less tough than before. Many are followers of monk philosophies, especially passive ones, and rely on overwhelming defense and bulk to survive dangers others could not. They are peaceful and lazy and usually only get up from their rest to dance to the pleasing tunes of music, in search for food, or to set up a source of food.

Physical Description

Kabiorks are large rotund beings, almost appearing like a bear but with the flat humanoid face of an orc, complete with tusks. They are covered in graytone, brown, or dusty blue fur with light colored bellies, and possess claws and ears like a bear. They are usually sleeping and relaxing. Built like a sumo, they are nothing but fat and muscle and much stronger than their flab suggests. Because of their faces (and their history) some suggest they are associated with orcs but they no longer seem to possess orc blood that remains compatible. Some suggested that through act of divinity actual orcs were transformed into these peaceful beastmen.

Relations

Kabiorks seek to find peace in all things, usually wishing to be left alone but they are more than happy to deal with others, if such trade is desirable. They usually end up in enclaves living within whatever power exists at the time. When roused to actual conflict, the lot return briefly to their old warrior ways and often surprise their aggressors with their ferocity. The kabiorks dislike this greatly, and will strike with overwhelming force to hasten a return to comfort.

Alignment

Kabiorks are often true neutral.

Lands

Kabiorks have retreated from the world, and usually inhabit mountain passes and nearby valleys. Their monasteries can be found on mountaintops where hundreds sit in contemplation, often with rice fields run autonomously by what few spellcasters spring among their ranks. This allows them to live without working, as they wish it.

Religion

Kabiorks follow the philosophy of Kabigone. To them, life is to be enjoyed in slumber and comfort, and anything that promotes this comfort is good. While for more evil minded kabiorks this means the use of slaves, others would point out such an arrangement is ultimately temporary and takes much effort to maintain, and thus they turn to alternative methods to avoid work and engage in rest.

Language

Kabiorks speak Common and Orc, possibly the only strong proof of what they once were.

Names

Kabiorks often have names which are easy to say, even when in a yawn.
