The longspear is a longer version of the spear. Longspears are made to be flexible, allowing them to be a finesse weapon, but they lose the thrown property.
Polearm
Their length classifies them as a polearm for the Polearm Master feat's opportunity attack reach ability (see Player's Handbook (5e) p.168).
Exotic Weapon

Monk Weapon
If you are both a Monk and are proficient with this weapon, it is treated as a Monk Weapon for you.
