This spell halts the durations of any 8th level or lower transmutation effects cast upon the target for 1 hour per 2 caster levels, treating them as "permanent duration" until this spell ends, at which time their durations begin counting down again from their full duration time (as if they had just been cast). If the caster is the subject of the spell, the duration instead becomes 1 hour per caster level.
Maintain transfiguration only affects transmutations already placed upon the target when it is cast. In addition, any maintained transmutations on the target function as though they were 9th level spells for the purposes of removal or dispelling.
