A medicine stick is an important article vital to the [[Witch Doctor (3.5e Class)|witch doctor]] for his rituals to contact the spirits as well as heal and harm as he desires. The medicine stick is usually much heavier and blunter at the top than at the bottom, which is carved to a sharp point, so that should the [[Witch Doctor (3.5e Class)|witch doctor]] be set upon by assailants, he may defend himself, in combat as tribal warfare is commonplace. A medicine stick is a [[SRD:Double Weapon|double weapon]]. You can fight with it as if fighting with two weapons, but if you do, you incur all the normal attack penalties associated with fighting with two weapons, just as if you were using a one-handed weapon and a [[SRD:Light Weapon|light weapon]]. A [[Witch Doctor (3.5e Class)|witch doctor]] wielding a medicine stick in one hand can’t use it as a [[SRD:Double Weapon|double weapon]]—only one end of the weapon can be used in any given [[SRD:Round|round]]. A medicine stick may not be purchased by conventional means other than either stealing it from a [[Witch Doctor (3.5e Class)|witch doctor]] or killing one and taking it off his corpse, and even then, its powers are unrecognized to all but the tribe that created it.
