Midnight Steel[edit]

This silvery metal has a faint purple sheen, and shimmers light the moon in the cover of darkness. Said to have been a creation of the nocturne elves, midnight steel has all the properties of a normal steel weapon. However at night it glows in a 10 ft radius of silvery light, and 20 ft of shadowy illumination. The light reveals creatures with the Shapechanger subtype not in their natural forms, and creatures afflicted by polymorph effects by illuminating them with faerie fire (even if they would be invisible). You can toggle the glow as a free action on your turn. In addition items made from the metal count as a holy or unholy symbol for deities associated with the moon or night.

If forged into a weapon, the metal counts as silver for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction and regeneration, but only at night. This also applies to shields.

If forged into armor, your armor check penalty is reduced to 0, but only at night.

If forged into an actual holy or unholy symbol, it grants a +1 caster level to divination spells. This applies even if the spell is not divine, so long as it is used as a focus component.

Midnight steel is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, midnight steel weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and the armor check penalty of midnight steel armor is lessened by 1 compared to ordinary armor of its type.

Midnight steel has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10.

Type of Midnight Steel Item Item Cost Modifier
Ammunition +15 gp
Armor +1,000 gp
Weapon +500 gp
Focus 1,000 gp
