''"Good morning, isn't it." the sailor muttered. It was the dead of night. The sailor burbled as you watched in horror when the old man's beard began to move, and his arms began to bend unnaturally. "Good morning, isn't... good morning is it..."''

Relatives of the mimic octopus, the mimitopus is amphibious, smarter, and more dangerous for they are capable of maintaining their structure outside of water and take on shapes of land creatures, including humanoids. They are a hazard for coast dwelling people for these intelligent cephalopods steal the efforts of civilization and possess a greed for objects, even if they themselves do not always know the value and purpose of the objects in question. Not only do these squids take on the shape of others, they can also mimic voices and often do so with frightening accuracy. They are capable of remembering a great deal of words, but only have a dim concept of actual language and so when they speak they often sound like a chatbot attempting to communicate, drifting off on random topics only indirectly related or slurring and rambling to cover up incompetence and ignorance with accent and false intoxication. After spending days or weeks on the surface, they return to the ocean with their ill gotten gains and exist as shapechanging creatures of the sea until their next fancy strikes.

The mimitopus can radically swell or constrict its boneless body as needed, able to mimic anything from a medium to a tiny creature. They don't actually speak any language, but can "understand" and "speak" fragments of whatever languages they are exposed to. Ultimately they are still animal-like intellect and slaves to instinct, and all their behavior is a cover to achieving these primal goals. In their natural form they are a dog-sized octopi of various colors and patterns, and they are able to adjust these colors and patterns and even their texture at a whim. Many acquire clothing, jewelry, or other items to complete their natural disguises.

=== Combat ===

Mimitopi rely on surprise, and can lash out with two of their eight tendrils at a time. They have two eyes but their eyes and their eyes in disguise do not always match up. Their mouth is a five way starburst beak which is often held folded away in their many wrinkles on their body. It is not uncommon for a mimitopus disguised as a human to have their head collapse as eyes appear on their shoulders and their torso open up into a frightening maw. They typically grab onto their opponent, then bite them to death while in the throes of close combat.

'''Amphibious {{Ex}}:''' Although sea hags are aquatic, they can survive indefinitely on land. They can breathe air and water. They count as watery or [Water] subtype creatures for spells and effects that affect this.

'''Clamping Bite {{Ex}}:''' Once a mimitopus is grappling a creature, it can maintain a hold without any action on its part and will usually attack with its bite attack at no penalty (beyond being a secondary weapon) in a grapple. It still makes grapple checks against creatures trying to escape its grapple. As long as it is grappling all successful bite attacks are confirmed critical hits.

'''Improved Grab {{Ex}}:''' To use this ability, a mimitopus must hit an opponent of any size with its tentacle attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and automatically deals bite damage.

'''Mimicry {{Ex}}:''' A mimitopus can transform its appearance into any corporeal creature as a standard action, as if using ''[[SRD:Alter Self|alter self]]'' at will for any creature of a size of its variable build (one size larger or smaller). It can also make minor alterations such as hair color, texture, or other traits as a swift action. It has a +10 bonus to Disguise checks to appear as other creatures, with no penalty to Disguise for disguising as the wrong creature type, size, or gender.

'''Uncanny Dodge {{Ex}}:''' A mimitopus has uncanny dodge as a [[barbarian]] of its level.

'''Variable Build {{Ex}}:''' The mimitopus can count as one size smaller or one size larger than normal whenever it is most beneficial.

'''Skills:''' A mimitopus can change colors, giving it a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks. A mimitopus also can squeeze and contort its body, giving it a +10 racial bonus on Escape Artist checks, as well as a +10 bonus on Disguise from its Mimicry ability. A mimitopus has a +8 racial bonus on any Swim check to perform some special action or avoid a hazard. It can always choose to take 10 on a Swim check, even if distracted or endangered. It can use the run action while swimming, provided it swims in a straight line.
