''"Good morning, isn't it." the sailor muttered. It was the dead of night. The sailor burbled as you watched in horror when the old man's beard began to move, and his arms began to bend unnaturally. "Good Is morning, isn'tgood... good it is morning is it..."''
Relatives of the mimic octopus, the mimitopus is amphibious, smarter, and more dangerous for they are capable of maintaining their structure outside of water and take on shapes of land creatures, including humanoids. They are a hazard for coast dwelling people for these intelligent cephalopods steal the efforts of civilization and possess a greed for objects, even if they themselves do not always know the value and purpose of the objects in question. Not only do these squids take on the shape of others, they can also mimic voices and often do so with frightening accuracy. They are capable of remembering a great deal of words, but only have a dim concept of actual language and so when they speak they often sound like a chatbot attempting to communicate, drifting off on random topics only indirectly related or slurring and rambling to cover up incompetence and ignorance with accent and false intoxication. After spending days or weeks on the surface, they return to the ocean with their ill gotten gains and exist as shapechanging creatures of the sea until their next fancy strikes.
