Mnemonic Incense
Mnemonic incense is the diluted version of a mind-expanding drug known as mnemosyne that is extremely addictive and sought after by certain disreputable circles of arcane high society. While most of the drug's adverse effects and its addiction factor have been removed, mnemonic incense still poses a health risk when overused and is strictly regulated by the governments and militaries that know of it.
Often used right before critical battles, mnemonic incense is a useful tool for spellcasters to temporarily expand their spell repertoire. Mnemonic incense has an effective enhancement bonus of +2, +4, +6, +8, +10 or +12.
To use mnemonic incense, one joss stick must be lit as you begin to meditate to prepare or renew your spells for the next day. As you breathe in the faintly purple incense smoke during meditation, you gain the incense's enhancement bonus to your casting-relevant ability score for the purpose of determining your number of spell slots or spells prepared. This effect only persists for this session of preparing or renewing spells, and the extra spell slots remain until expended.
Only one person can receive full effects from a single joss stick of mnemonic incense. If multiple creatures attempt to use the same joss stick, the effect is reduced; in such a case, reduce the effective enhancement bonus of the incense by double the number of participating creatures. For example, two creatures partaking of one stick of +8 mnemonic incense will receive the benefits of +4 mnemonic incense.
