Mountebank[edit]

The Mountebank is a trickster allied with the fell powers of the Outer Planes: the herald of a demon prince, a duke of Hell, or a similar power. Some rogues seek out such an alliance, their thirst for power blotting out any fears they might have of eternal damnation or servitude. Other rogues are opportunists forced to embrace an infernal pact for lack of any better options. In any case, the mountebank is a master trickster who derives power from their link to a dark master.

Beguiling Stare[edit]

Starting at 3rd Level, as a bonus action, you can stare into a creatures eyes within 60 feet and attempt to hypnotize them through the force of your infernal gaze, forcing them to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier) or become beguiled for 1 minute. A beguiled character allows you to use your Sneak Attack against that target even if you don’t have advantage on the attack roll and the beguiled character also has disadvantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks. Once a creature has been beguiled it cannot be beguiled again until 24 hours have passed.

Mark of Damnation[edit]

Starting at 3rd Level, when you die your soul is consigned to your master. Any attempt to return you to life has a chance of failure, as your master determines the fate of your soul. You must make a DC 20 Charisma (Deception) or Charisma (Persuasion) check to return to the living and you gain double your proficiency bonus on this check, as the dark lords of the Outer Planes prefer to let their more accomplished and skilled pawns return to the Material Plane as agents in their plans and machinations. In addition, the penalties to attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks bestowed upon you for being successfully brought back from the dead are reduced to half from -4 to -2.

The Soul’s Secret[edit]

Beginning at 9th level, you can't be targeted by any divination magic or perceived through magical scrying sensors.

Bewitch the Masses[edit]

At 13th level, you may use your Beguiling Stare feature at every target within 60 feet of you once per short rest. In addition you may cast the suggestion spell once per short rest.

Soul of Deceit[edit]

Starting at 17th level, your thoughts can’t be read by telepathy or other means, unless you allow it. You can present false thoughts by succeeding on a Charisma (Deception) check contested by the mind reader’s Wisdom (Insight) check.

Additionally, no matter what you say, magic that would determine if you are telling the truth indicates you are being truthful if you so choose and you can’t be compelled to tell the truth by magic.
